Children's Dentist from Health Plan of Nevada in Henderson/Las Vegas?

I an SAHM of 2 year old twin girls and recently brought them to their first dental visit. I was very disappointed because the first place we tried was Absolute Kids on Eastern/215 in Henderson,NV. The waiting room was very boring (being a kids dentist you expect better) and then they had us wait in the denist chair for a very long time, which was also boring for them. Finally, I just took them and left because they said it would be 20 more minutes.

The next time I tried Dentalville across from the Galleria Mall in Henderson. Their waiting room was good and the staff was pretty friendly. We waited a little too long in my opinion, but that would've been fine if the dentist wasn't so unfriendly! First of all, being a child's dentist, you would think he would come in, sit down, introduce himself, talk to the girls for a few minutes, THEN try to open their mouth. Instead: he came in with his mask already on!!! looking like a scary person (to them, anyway); didn't intoduce himself; we could barely understand his English; then starts to PRY open their mouth and he's looking at me like, "can't you make them cooperate?" while he's stating that, "they're biting me!" Anyway, he eventually was able to look in quickly and see there weren't any visible cavities forming on each of my girls and told us to come back in a year. Then he just got up and walked away! The dental nurses were friendly after that and gave the girls a plastic bracelet and a balloon, but I was thinking, "Wouldn't it have been more kid-friendly to have the dentist walk in with the bracelets in hand and NO mask on, then introduce himself and give the girls the bracelet while talking to them sweetly? They would've cooperated better, I know it.

Anyway the reason I'm ranting is because I just want to find an a dentist that really IS kid-friendly not just an office that claims to be. My problem lies in the fact that I have Health Plan of Nevada and they have a lot of choices of regular dentists, but not specifically children's dentists.

Does anyone out there also have HPN that brings their children to a kid-friendly dentist? I don't mind driving, but it would be wonderful to stay in Henderson.

Thank you!

Hi Y.:

I'm not really familiar with HPN's approved doctor list, but I take my daughter to Rainbow Dental. It's on the NW corner of Rainbow & Tropicana. Our ins. is similar in that it doesn't really cover a lot of pediatric dentists. But I have been VERY happy with this office. The staff is nice, the doctor is extremely kid-friendly (on our first visit, he spent 20 minutes making my daughter feel more comfortable, even making her a puppet out of one of the gloves) and we have never had a long wait at all. They are also reasonably priced, so if you do have to have extra work done, it won't cost you a ton of extra money. Hope this helps.

Ynovve,

Hello I know you are in the Henderson area but I found a great dentist office off of 9827 W. Tropicana Ave called Just for Kids Dentistry. Thier number is ###-###-#### and their website is www.justforkidsdentistrylv.com. They have a play area for the kids and the staff was great with my children. They are so great the kids can not tell the staff from the dentist so there is no intimidation. You might have a wait but it is well worth it. They even have a power wheels pink jeep for the kids to sit in and a tv in the cieling it they need extensive work done where the kids can pick or bring thier own movie. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Good Luck, K.
