they do this#1 because those teeth are new and the frustrtion of another one coming in is the reason he is grinding once he gets more in he will quit doing that! All four of my kids did that and my 2 grandkids as well.

Hi,
My adopted son did the same thing. I read it was normal when they first get teeth. He is 3 now and still doing that :( I don't know what to do although in his case I think it is in response to anxiety.

Good Luck!

My son is 19 months old and still grinds his teeth. He started about the same time as your son, when he got teeth on the top and bottom. I asked the pediatrician about it and she said that it was because he has discovered that he has these new things in his mouth. She said not to make a big deal about it and he would stop in time when the teeth were not such a hot new item. And he did. Every once in a while he will still grind his teeth, but now he does it because he knows it grinds my nerves (haha). BUT, if you have concerns about your son grinding his teeth, contact his pediatrician or a pediatric dentist for advice. Hope this helps!!

My son also was grinding his teeth when his top ones came in. I asked a pediatric oral hygentist about it, and she said its very common. Having those teeth is a new feeling and grinding is normal. She said to just ignore it - and he did stop after a few months.

J.,

My daughter who is 5 has been grinding her teeth for several years. I've mentioned it to her dentist whom told me that her teeth weren't showing any signs of the grinding, and that's it not a big issue until their permanent teeth come in. She due for another check now, and her permanent teeth are coming in and I'm going to ask again. The grinding has gotten worse and it's shrilling. If you'll keep in touch I'll let you know what they say.
