Chem Dry or Steam Clean

Need good cleaning of my carpets that will last. Okay, I've seen so many requests for carpet cleaners, and many recommendations. Have used Dalworth and Stanley Steemer. Carpets looked great for one week, and the stains returned. Someone has recommended Chem Dry, and another says no, stay away from the dry cleaning method. Any comments, please? Our carpet is 7 years old with typical stains--dirt, juice, etc.

TLC Carpet Cleaning in Carrolton/Lewisville is great.

However, you might just need new carpet and if your child is still dropping things on the carpet and the dogs still having accidents.... then wait a few more years!

I have used Chem Dry a couple of times and have to say I do like their method. It is not actually "dry". They spray on a foam that is similar to soda water (I know that it is not, but it works in that way) It pulls the dirt up that way. They also use a truck mounted system with water that is amazing. I had some awful stains on my stairs from butter and vicks and crayons. (I have two toddlers that get into anything they can find!) Anyway I thought those stains would never come out and they did. And they didn't come back. They also have a cleaner in a can that they sell separately that you can use between cleanings that is AMAZING. I absolutely love it and will never use another carpet cleaner. It doesn't bleach your carpet at all. You spray it on, leave it for 30 seconds and blot. It is really great. I cleaned a whole room of peanut butter with it once! (Again 4 and 5 year old! They took the peanut butter up to the toy room and painted the floor with it the DAY AFTER the carpets were cleaned!) AGHH!!! They were 2 and 3 at the time. They don't do that anymore. Thankfully! Anyway, I like the way the Chem Dry cleans our floors and it dries much faster than steam cleaning.

The people at the flooring stores all recommend hot water extraction by a company that has truck mounted equipment. This is so that all the water that they put into your carpet is taken out. When the equipment is truck mounted it has supposedly more suction power. They said that when you put chemicals in your carpet it breaks down the fibers and actually makes your carpet easier to stain. Dalworth, Stanley Steemer, etc. all have truck-mounted hot water extraction equipment.

I own a carpet cleaning company in Arlington, TX (First Class Cleaning, listed on this website). We use only steam clean method. Not only do carpet stores recommend this method only, but also leading carpet manufacturere's. The spill that are returning are called wicking. They are in your padding and look great when you clean, however they transfer to the surface as it dries. Any good, reputable, ethical company will return within a reasonable time to retreat. If you check with carpet manufacturer's, some are beginning to void warranties if you use dry clean (bonnet, chem dry, kiwi) process due to the fact they have proven to damage carpet fibers because they leave a residue behind. To find a certified cleaner in your area, go to www.IICRC.org. They not only have the right equipment, they have a true cleaning pro. Good luck!

Without replacing the pad, the stains will always return.

I have 28 apartments near SMU plus a number of rental houses. I have used Joy Carpet & Dry Cleaning (you can find their web site) for more than ten years. Previously I had used ServPro for carpet cleaning (wet) but I am much more impressed with Joy's dry cleaning service. Call them and they can explain why the dry cleaning is better. If you have crawling babies, invest in a large soft blanket (queen or king) that you put on top of the carpet for the baby to crawl on. It's soft, no chemicals are on it, it protects your carpet, and it can be thrown in the wash every time spit up or other bad stuff gets on it. I have been very pleased with Joy; they are a bit more expensive than wet services, but far better results and great service. My tenants around SMU are high end; very demanding, and Joy's service keeps them happy.
