Mamas-
My beautiful, rowdy son has horrible chafing on the inside of his legs....one side almost looks like the skin is burned...he had diahrrea four times in a one day and now is fine, except for the legs!!! We have been putting desitin on it, letting him run around with out pants to air it out (he walks bow legged so they won't touch!) and even wrapped them in ace bandages after putting the desitin on so it has time to soak in. That was yesterday and my husband said today they are still red but he's not acting like it bothers him as much. Any other things I'm missing out on using? Aquaphor? Oatmeal bath? He does not have a diaper rash - only on his poor little legs!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

In response to Denise (and others if they ask) - Would baby or Golds powder work when it's so chafed it looks raw? I'm afraid the powder would burn?!

Well we just let it air out as much as possible and it's mostly gone! Poor baby!

My daughter had something similar on her neck and chest. It looked red and angry. Turns out it was eczema that got infected with yeast (who knew!) A few days of hydrocortizone with anti-fungal cream and her skin is smooth and beautiful again.

I'd have the doctor check it out, to make sure it's just a regular rash and not something that needs a little extra attention.

I agree with yeast. Just call the dr. and see if he can recommend something. A&D might work better.

My kids have terrible excema. It looks awful and really irritates them. We find that a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream covered with vaseline helps quickly and tremendously...but we have to do it often.

What about some Gold Bond powder? Poor little guy. I would think dry & air would be best.

I agree it could be yeast and in that case the doc will give you a tube of stuff and it clears it up right away. My son gets some yeast every once in a while and we just put this stuff on it and it's gone within about a day. ( I apologize I don't remember the name, it's at home and I'm at work)
The 2nd thing is if it is "diahhrea rash" , our pediatrician told us to mix our diaper ointment with Mylanta. It will be liquidy, but you can make it thicker with a little more diaper rash cream. Smother the area with it (sounds like you will need to put a cotton square on it and an ace bandage to keep it in contact) This will not only soothe the pain but will help to heal the rash. This also worked wonderfully. We simply mixed it in a screw top ziploc bowl and keep it in his drawer with his diapers. It does work for diaper rash too.
Hope he gets to feeling better!
To your gold bond questions I don't think I would use powder if his skin is so chaffed that it looks raw. Gold bond is medicated and it will burn like the dickens!
