We are moving to the Monterey area next week and I can't find any recent reviews of cell phone coverage. Can anyone tell me what they think is best and if there are any companies I might want to avoid? I would appreciate any insight I can get.

Thanks,
B.

I have been living in the Monterey Area for three years now. My husband and I had cingular when we moved here, but my husbands calls kept getting dropped. We have had verizon for about a year now and have not had any problems. Hope this helps and welcome to Monterey! ~ S.

Welcome to the peninsula! Verizon has been the best coverage me and my family have found for coverage around here! Also a side note since you are moving to Monterey, just wanted to let you know about Parent's Place a great program with classes and activities for non- school age children. It is a great way to connect with other parents in the area when you are new to town! Good luck and feel free to email me for more info if you are interested in Parent's place!

Hi- We are in Pacific Grove and cannot get reception from our home via T-mobile. It's ridiculous! There are lots of areas I would think are worse around the peninsula so I would avoid T-mobile for sure. My husband has AT&T with no problems, I'll be switching as soon as my contract expires. Welcome to paradise, you're going to love living here! Kari

It depends where you will be living, because there are canyons, coves... I have Verizon and it doesn't get good reception in some of the nooks and crannies of the area. It's not a huge problem though. My husband works in Monterey and has AT&T. He never seems to have any problems.

Good luck,

M. Ann

Hi B.,
The Ford Ord area has really bad cell phone reception. I am not sure if you are moving to that housing or the La Mesa (if either). If you move to Ford Ord you may need to get a land line or plan on stepping outside of your house to talk on the phone. Also if you get a choice of homes you may want to try your phone in the home to see if it work in one house and not the other. I have AT&T and it works on Monterey Road (near some housing in Ford Ord and the Child Development Center) and it cut out on parts of General Jim Moore Road. I am happy with AT&T and think all cell phone may have an issue around Ford Ord. I think you should avoid Vontage. there was a 5 second delay on my friend's phone when she made calls. good luck on your move.

Hello B.,
I have Had At&T in that area for 10 yaers (formerly cingular)with little problem there are a few areas where you get a dropped call but mostly when driving and it is illegal now in the state of Ca to use your phone while driving. They are offically giving out 75.00 tickets Verizon works fine in that area too. Im sure there are other companies that work fine these are the only two I have experience with.
