Cat Incontinence Issue

My cat had a very hard time when we had our daughter. The cat still doesn't like kids much. She's 12 this year and is having a hard time with poo too. Her problem is it's to hard, so I soak her food b4 giving it to her. If you think it's a lack of attention there are drops you can get at the health food store that help the animal relax into new living situations. I use rescue remedy for everyone at our house. It's an all natural bach flower remedy. I give it to the cat before going to the vet, or if lots of people are going to visit. We take it when were feeling sensitive. Good luck!

Sometimes the animals act out when there is a lack of attention. Try giving a little more attention and moving him to his litter box when you notice the times that he is more likely to mess outside of his box, reminding him that the box is the place to be at those times. Just be careful to watch him and make sure you pay attention to how he acts just before he does these things, this way you know what to look for.

Get him fixed if he's not. more then likely this is his way of showing you he needs more attention. I have 2 cats of my own and we have had simular problems. It seems like the only time they do this type of thing is when they are upset with us. Maybe he is jealous of the baby.

I am a veterinary technician, and just to let you know you're not alone. Kitties can be very picky and difficult when it comes to their litterboxes. As long as you've had him checked for intestinal parasites, a urinary tract infection, or anything else medical (exam and bloodwork) it's probably behavioral. Some things you can try: try a new kind of litter-if you use clumping, try regular litter or vice-versa some kitties are particular about the substrate they go on. Try a different kind of litterbox-maybe a covered one for more privacy, or a larger one? Try a different location for his preferred litterbox if you can. Also, pay attention to whether the other cats are leaving him alone when he uses the litterbox (I know-can be difficult, I have 3 cats of my own!).
Some other ideas-is he getting enough attention? I know my cats just don't get the attention they used to before my daughter was born.
Did it start around the time your son was born? Sometimes kitties will start w/ inappropriate elimination when something in their life changes, like a new baby. On the bright side, at least he's doing it next to the litterbox, instead of somewhere else in the house...

I have a friend that has 5 cats. One of her cats started having this exact same issue. She also had clean litter boxes (and enough for all the cats). She read that cats will start to do this (not use litter boxes) if they are unhappy with their water source. She bought one of those pet water "fountains" that circulates their water to keep it fresh, and the cat immediately went back to using the litter box. It would certainly be worth a try? my girlfriend out in washington has 3 cats and her vet told her to have 4 litter boxes. have one for each cat and then one extra one. i can't remember why, but her cat was doing the same thing and also in her plants, and so she got the extra litter box and he started going in there. so i hope this helps!!!
