We currently have our 4 yr old son in a Graco Nautilus 3 in 1 and love it!! However it is too deep for my husbands small car (I think the measurement of the carseat is 22in deep!) I am getting ready to start my bachelor program in school which will require the kids (I have a 2yr old girl also) to be in a daycare and picked up by my husband once a week in his car. We are looking for an inexpensive new carseat for our son, as it will rarely be used. My son is 4yrs old, 44lbs, and about 43 inches. I want to keep him in a 5 point harness for as long as possible but am having a hard time finding a harness carseat that will convert to high back booster that is under $100 and in his weight range (most max out at 40 or 50lbs.) Any suggestions??

I believe Radian makes a very slim seat but it may be over $100. That was the smallest one I found when I looked a year or so ago. My kids are in the Graco Nautilus too. It is a great seat but a tight fit in a smaller car. Also the Babies R Us near us will let you try seats in you car with and employee present (don't go on a busy Saturday).

Try the radian, safety is worth spending a little more.

For once a week I would probably just get him a booster seat. But if you really have to have a five point harness there is the evenflo generations 65 that harnesses to 65 pounds. I think it would be smaller than the nautilus.

I have the Generations 65 for my husband's car. It harnesses up to 65lbs and it's under $100. It's not my favorite seat (we have a Britax in my suv) but we hardly use it so I'm ok with it.
