Can Anyone Reassure Me Regarding Spotting During Pregancy and Mismatched Dates?

Hi Mama's! I'm hoping to get some reassurance from folks. I am 41 yo and 7 weeks 4 days pregnant with my second child. I started spotting a few days ago, not very much, just pink and kind of mucousy, a few times more red. Not really having any cramping. I went to the OB today because of this and she said that the fetus measures in at only 6 weeks 3 days. There was a heartbeat, but it was slow. For 6 weeks 3 days that's normal, but not for 7 weeks 4 days. I was charting basal temps etc so I'm positive on my dates. I'm kind of freaking out a little. I REALLY want this child as my husband and I have been trying for awhile. Anyone have a similar experience and things turned out OK?
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

So What Happened?

I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my post. Unfortunately on Saturday, I miscarried at 8 weeks 1 day. Very sad. Trying to hang in there. Thank you again to everyone.

I know of plenty of people that have had spotting for a few days, or even throughout their pregnancy, so if the doctor isn't worried, I would relax and follow her advice. As for the size, I would also relax with this. I was told not to expect my pregnancy to be viable because the blood test didn't match what the dates said, but my 10 week old proves otherwise. When you go in next month, as long as she is consistently growing over the month, don't get caught up with the exact date.

I had spotting and bleeding with both of my pregnancies and my babies were born healthy! My first pregnancy I bled like a period for a month! I think there was a small hole in the placenta, but it didn't cause any problems. I also had lots of ultrasounds and the dates always varied. I kept track of my cycle too, and the measurement they gave me was always a little different from what I calculated. Sometimes it was ahead of the date i thought and sometimes behind. Whatever happens don't worry and cause yourself extra stress. The worry won't change anything. Relax as much as you can and hopefully everything will work out just fine!

What are your HCG/Progesterone levels?? This would help to better indicate how things are progressing. Demand the test. Ultrasounds should not be preformed(IMHO) prior to 10 weeks since all they do is cause worry. Remember ultrasound can be 1-2 weeks off, and your dates can be off also. Your body can take its time before that egg implants and starts to mature.

I was told at 6w3 days My baby was dying by the ER, on a saturday night. I was bleeding like crazy. I went back to the doc on Monday and the baby was fine heart beating and everything. Turned out progesterone was low, we supplemented for several weeks and now I have a happy healthy 2 year old.

Hugs to you and remember you are your best advocate make the doctors work for you.

My oldest daughter I spotted and they checked my progestrone levels and they were low. They put me on progestrone supplements and she is happy, healthy girl! :) Ask them to test.
Hope that helps! Praying for the best for you and your baby

It's understandable to be worried. They may have the conception date wrong by a week. Mine was wrong by 2 weeks. However I would have them check your progesterone level. I had a miscarriage that I believe was due to low progesterone. I used progesterone cream for the next pregnancy, and have a healthy baby.

Not to go on too long, but I'd done a lot of reading that convinced me that low progesterone in my cycle had me conceiving late in my cycle(thus the 2 weeks off on the conception date, on both of the aforementioned pregnancies). So I started using the cream according to the practices I read (there are articles online, just find one that is credible), and used it for 16 or 18 weeks into my pregnancy. There are some doctors that believe that low progesterone contributes to miscarriage, but not all doctors believe that.

Best wishes!

I think you shouldn't worry toooo much......take it day by day....there is a heart beat and you went to your Dr. If you have no pain, no worries....:)
I congratulate you on getting pregnant at age 41. I am 39 and soooo wanting to get pregnant also! We have one child and want one more!
Did you have any "assistance" in becoming pregnant if you don't mind me asking??? Fertility pills, etc....?
Thanks!

Yup, very similar experience and everything turned out fine! When I got preggo with my first son, the drs dates were one week behind my dates. And with the same pregnancy I bled very heavily at about 13 weeks...cramps the whole deal. I thought for sure I was loosing the baby. I went in for an u/s the next day and everything was absolutely fine. I have a perfectly healthy 2 year old running all over the place now!

Best of luck to you mama! I hope all works out for you!

I bled like a period in the first month that I was pregnant- I didn't even know I was pregnant at the time because of the "period." The next month I bled again- red blood for 2 or 3 days, by this time I knew I was pregnant as I had terrible morning sickness. They did a transvaginal ultrasound at that time. I spotted again the third month. I delivered a happy healthy stubborn baby girl in March 2006. Take it easy and keep a close line with your doctor. Congratulations on your pregnancy.
