I am just wondering how much success people have had with Calms Forte by Hylands for getting their child to sleep. My 4 year old daughter has always had a problem sleeping. SHe can and has even stayed up until midnight before she finally falls to sleep. I am at my wits end. I was given the suggestion to try Calms Forte and I wonder what kind of success people have had. How much would I give her? She is 4 and weighs about 37 pounds.

So What Happened?

I did go out and get the Calms Forte for my daughter. It has worked like a dream...a good dream.LOL. I give it to her a few hours before bedtime and it calms her down so that when she falls asleep, she stays asleep. SHE Was having trouble with night terrors and she hasn't had one in 2 weeks now. She is sleeping all night, and waking up a much happier, rested child. SHe is very active during the day and started pre-school this year. I think she was just going to sleep with her mind racing and that was causing her stress at night. The Calms Forte has helped her mind relax. It is great, and I want to thank you all for the suggestion. I have even started taking it, and my insomnia is going away too. Thank you, Thank you.

Hi M.,

I gave my niece some Calms Forte and she reported no results in calming nor inducing sleep in her son. However, I keep Insomnia by Hylands in stock for both myself and my daughter because it has worked for everyone I've given it to, adults and children alike.

My daughter is nearly 4.

I'm editing my post to include my recommendation that you also look into Hylands Upset Stomach remedy as well. This is the greatest stuff, for tummy issues and digestive upsets when you don't know which end should be up. As you may know, it's very difficult to diagnose and fix tummy issues. But this will stop it in its tracks. I have used it myself preventatively for acid reflux and also for what felt like food poisoning.

Good luck.

The Hylands products are good and safe. However as a holistic practitioner and mom, I know that when children have trouble sleeping, it is usually related to a nutritional deficiency...often minerals. Our food supply is deficient in them, and kids need a lot. So trying something natural like coral legend from PRLabs, about 1/4 tsp works wonders. If the child has trouble falling asleep, it may often be from a fall or bang to the head, which disrupts the gall bladder a little and that is the organ that dictates falling asleep easily and staying in a deep sleep. If so, just a few drops of GB nano from PRLabs also works wonders. If your child awakes in the middle of the night, it usually means they have a mild infection (it's usually dormant and then when around other sick kids, the child gets sick easily). I hope this helps you think about which direction you want to head in with this. My son hit his head pretty hard as an infant (well, really it was our fault) and he never fell asleep easily...I did some detective work and a couple of the above items worked perfectly for him and he seemed much more rejuvenated upon arising.

We see many children and infants at our facility and we do the same type of detective work using non-invasive techniques that accurately diagnose the precise issue/problem and the exact remedy. When done this way, situations heal very fast.

good luck!

I haven't tried that but have gotten help for myself and children with Calcium and Magnesium. A nutritionist we go to shared that a lot of sleep problems are related to deficiencies in these areas. Many health food stores have supplements you can give yourself and kids and they really help me and my 4 children. An extra glass of milk, rice beverage or piece of cheese an hour or so before beds works too....Good luck!

I have taken Calms Forte as a sleep aid, and I had to take five or six. They are perfectly safe, but you may want to inquire at the health food store. I would imagine that for a four-year-old, one may be safe.

Some children are natural night owls! My son was a sleeper, and my daughter was not. I could hardly get her to take a nap-she would lay in her bed as I told her to do, but she would lay there wide awake! I hope this helps.

i haven't heard of calms forte, but my naturopath has suggested taking melatonin supplements for my 9 and 7 yr old boys who don't sleep soundly. i have also heard people talk about zinc supplements. i have upped my boys activity thinking that they are too sedentary in the day and that might contribute to restless nights. is your daughter napping still? when my 4 yr old daughter naps it is hard to get her to go down to bed before 11 as well. limit sugar as well - it is in everything. read ingredients labels on food and no juice after 5 or 6. hope some of that is helpful =)

Calms Forte worked for me as well. I have known many children who have used it as well with success. It can't hurt her since it a homeopathic. The beautiful thing about them is that they either work or have no effect with no side effects. Try giving her something that contains tryptophan right before bed too such as a banana, a few low sodium turkey slices, etc.

I have used Calms Forte in the past for myself and a 1/2 of a pill was enough to get me to sleep through the night and I am a full grown adult. I would be weary about giving this to your child as it might not be a good idea. Is there a child's version of it?

Hi M., I'm not sure about the Calms Forte, but I have been seeing an acupuncturist for my insomnia (chronic since elementary school!) and I've had significant results. The acupuncturist I see also specializes in acupressure and holistic approaches with pediatric health and she's really wonderful. Her name is Nicole at the Remeber to Breath Wellness Center. I hope that's helpful! ~C.

First, let me say how much I sympathize with you, as I am going through the same thing with my 3 year old. I bought some of the Calms Forte. The instructions are very simple to follow. You put 2 tablets under the tongue (the box will give more instructions). I had heard about it and was excited to try it for the sleep improvement. The other day, I finally decided to give it to him. I give it to him at 6:30 p.m hoping that within an hour it would work. No luck. Had to repeat the dosage about 9 p.m. and he still did not fall asleep until about midnight. Maybe your experience will be different. I hope so. good luck with everything.

Hi M.,

I used Calms Forte for my 3 1/2 year old daughter and it worked great. My daughter has never been a good sleeper and would wake up at all hours and be awake. When she was 2 1/2 and I had not had a full nights sleep I was at my wits end. I found Calms Forte and started giving them to her. I told her they were candy and she loved them. I found that getting her to sleep was still a bit of a hassle but once she was asleep she stayed. I have continued to use it on and off. Also my daughter was talking alot during the night and not getting a peaceful nights sleep and I have found that these pills have really helped ease those. I think that they really worked and I hope you give them a try.

Hi,

Calms Forte is heavenly. We have used it with our son on an as needed basis for growing pains, and the occasional restless, sleepless night. They also make a version for the adults which I found exceedingly helpful. Bach Flowers also makes a new sleep aid. Both are gentle and work well. I too was an insomniac which was linked to other issues for me, yet both of these helped on my journey. My son is nearly 4 and we have been using this since he was two. By the way, our children are connected to us even psychically. I note when I am sleeping and restful so is he and when I am agitated so is my son so . . . I do all I can to set that example, now. It is all a learning process.

Best,
Nicole

I find that the calms forte 4 kids work great with a liquid calcium. I give 2 does of CF before bed sometimes, but if I can do a tablespoon of calcium with 6-10 calms forte 4 kids, then 1 dose is fine. There is no toxicity level for homeopathics.

I like Blue Bonnett or Lifetime calcium/mag - it's not specifically for kids, but it works WONDERS! (Blueberry flavor seems to go over best!) Calcium is a natural muscle and nervous system relaxant - and as they go through growth spurts, it stops the growing pains, and lets them sleep well. In fact, with the calcium, I don't have to give the calms forte, but very infrequently.

Both of my kids (5 years and 21 months) get calcium nearly every night before bed - and both of them sleep through the night.

PS There is a difference between the Calms Forte and the Calms Forte 4 Kids. We've used both, but what I've referrenced above is for kids specifically.

I havent tried that. But what is her diet like? Is she eating lots of protein, fruits, veggies? I can tell when my son hasnt had the best eating that day b/c it affects his sleep. Also, lots of walks and park trips to help tucker him out!! I have also given my son 2 board books (that he cant tear) in his bed to read until he falls asleep. I do this with naps and with bedtime.

You may want to discuss w/ her ped dr just to make sure anything else isnt going on

Good Luck! Nothing is worse than sleep deprivation! UGH

I have HORRIBLE insomnia and regular stuff doesn't usually work for me. My friend tried Calms Forte and she loved it. But she was an adult. You could call your pharmacist about it. Usually with kids I use chewable Benadryl. It works great with my kids. Me, I cant take that or nyquil or anything. It doesn't do anything for my sleep. Only prescription and tylenol PM. UGH I hate insomnia.
