For all you cooking savvy Mama's please give me some tips...I need a recipe for brown gravy for Mashed Potato's. I have looked on Allrecipes but there are mixed reviews so I need something tried and true-this is my first Thanksgiving without my Mama around to ask questions. TIA!

What can I do next?

I use the drippings from my meat and add Crisco if need be. I allow it to get warm and then add my flour slowly. I sift/mix it in to the drippings slowly. I then take either water or milk (sometimes half and half) and pour, whichever one I choose, slowly into my flour and drippings. I may add more liquid to get the consistency I prefer. Again stirring slowly until it becomes smooth and without lumps. I add garlic and salt to taste.

Hope this helps! :-)

I 2nd the little packets. I can cook very well - except for gravy. For whatever reason, I'm a gravy desaster. But, the little packets are great - especially if you can add some drippings to them to make them a little more flavorful!

I love to cook but I am no good at gravy SO.....for Brown Gravy I use the little packets at the grocery for about .79. 1 packet and 1 cup of water... Easy..

We like brown gravy a lot and I use it to season my fur children's food often so I buy it in a bulk container at Costco and make 1 cup at a time as needed.

I believe you can find store brand as well as McCormick, etc. They are all the same. You also have the option of buying the jar of premade gravy....

Happy Thanksgiving

R.,
I'm sorry your mother isn't around this Thanksgiving, I pray you have peace in your soul.
On to gravy... I'm a bit of a cheater, I like to use the juice from whatever meat I'm cooking with, Turkey, and use the packet gravy. Instead of adding water unless the left-over juices are extremely salty, I use it instead of water that recipe. Now my mom is all natural, she uses only the juice from the meat and uses cornstarch. I think the packets have a little more flavor.

God bless and have a happy thanksgiving!
