Ok I don't want to hear any horror stories about the Mirena- I have already read them all online. What I want to know is (and if your horror story is this please do share) did it affect your milk supply? This is my fourth child and I am pretty sure we are done but don't want to make anything permenant and only have insurance through the month of Feb. I had planned to just use other methods till my son was older so I wouldn't jeportize my milk supply but the only insurance I can find doesn't really cover prescriptions. And I have already met my deductible now so I can basically get it in free. However if I will lose my milk supply this is totally not worth it to me. Please only share personal stories I dont really want well my cousin's sisters friend. I only say this because I am trying so hard to find REAL stories on this I want facts ya know! thanks so much!
I had Mirena inserted 6 weeks after my son was born and went on to breastfeed for 18 months. No supply issues at all.
I got a Mirena when my second was six months old, and kept it until we were ready to try for #3. DS2 nursed for a long, long time and it never appeared to impact my supply at all. I was pumping to donate at the time and I would have noticed a change.
I've had it 3 times, and it never affected my supply.
I am currently breastfeeding my 3rd child and this is the second time I have done this while on mirena. I haven't had any noticable decrease in milk supply when nursing, although I do seem to have a harder time getting letdown when I pump at work. We just keep a small can of formula around just in case I don't have enough pumped, which is rare. Good Luck!
I got the Mirena after having my second child. Milk supply seemed to be the same as after I had my first. I bf both about 9-10 months. I never heard that it would affect your supply???
So looking back on it, I would say no.
I got Mirena after my 2nd and had no issues with supply. I've alway had an excess supply and that didn't change after mirena insertion.
Mirena doesn't contain estrogen, and only releases small amounts of a progestin hormone into your bloodstream. So really shouldn't affect milk at all.
Since I was quitting my job and would be losing health insurance (for a little bit) I chose to get Mirena for the same reason. I also had hesitations, not just about breastfeeding, but also because afraid it would make me nauseous.
Can say I'm glad I get it...other than some cramping after the first couple days, never notice it's there. I still get a period on time, but it's MUCH lighter than it used to be. I don't regret it at all.
I just got mine "updated" after five years. No issues whatsoever!
I had it inserted at 8 weeks post partum, nursed exclusively for 6 months and continued to nurse for 19 months. No negative effect on my supply.

I just got it and it was fine. I am not nursing, but since it is such a small localized amount of hormone, it should be fine. I was on the mini pill while I was nursing and there were no issues.
