Yup....sounds like Thrush to me too. Look into your baby's mouth. Are there white patches in there? Even if there aren't any, go to the doc.

maybe thrush but usually your baby will then have thrush in his/her mouth too. I was thinking it sounds like Mastitis. I have nursed 2 babies and have had mastitis a few times. Sometimes you don't always get a fever or the body aches that can go along with mastitis so that is why some woman second get it. But that is what it sounds like to me. Just go to your doc cause either way mastitis or thrush you need to get on antibiotics. And if is is mastitis they will give you pain meds too so you can still nurse. And nursing as much as possible will help with the mastitis.

Could it be Mastitis (sp?)? That is an infection. I would have the doctor check it out.

Thrush, Mama. Your doc will prescribe an antifungal, likely Nystatin, which will have to be applied to your nipples, and the baby will also have 1 or 2 daily doses of the same stuff. I've never had this, but I hear its painful. Sorry you're having to deal with this so long after you've started nursing. Good job on the decision to nurse this little one! I don't think the implant would be causing pain on your nipples, but be sure to mention this to the Doc.

You could have mastits. the cure for it is to keep nursing. You may try cabbage leaves to cool and easy the pain a little. It is recommended when you wean to help with engorgement.

Are your breasts hot to the touch? Could be infection.

You did not mention your breast or nipple being hot to touch... so I do not think it's mastitis, but sounds more like candida (thrush). Gentian Violet is a great non prescription way to get rid of it.

From my experience with thrush, I would say the pain was a kind of burning feeling but I wouldn't have called it a stabbing pain. If it is thrush, both you and your baby need an anti-fungal medicine. See the pediatrician and you should get the right medicine for yourself and your baby.

With thrush, your baby will help it spread from the right breast to the left so that could explain why the right is so painful and the left is just "somewhat sore". You will feel relief pretty quickly (within a day or so) with the anti-fungal. One thing I did is spread on Lanolin (not sure I got the spelling right) to help with the pain and I had already put on the Nystatin cream or in between doses of the Nystatin.

If the ob/gyn tells you it is mastitis (infection from plugged ducts), believe it or not, but continued breastfeeding helps! If your doctor tells you otherwise, please find a different, more breastfeeding-wise, doctor.

Please remind yourself that this will not go on forever! Hang in there with the breastfeeding. I'm saddened to hear stories of moms who start breastfeeding for the first time and give it up real easily, like because of thrush.

My DD started 'nibbling' a little when she is teething... not actually biting but scraping her teeth. I couldn't even tell for a while, until I got super sensitive and figured out what she was doing. :P
