We live in Westfield, NJ, and need a boarding option for our dog for three weeks this summer. Anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi. There is a vet on SOuth Springfield Ave, I believe called Westfield Vet. You can call them to see if they do it or if they have suggestions. We have bored our cate at the Summit Dog and Cat Hospital(vet) a few times before. There is also the Preppy Puppy but I think they might just groom.

Good luck finding a place. NJ isn't the worst palce to live. :-) Westfield is such a great town. Just walking around downtown, you will find Star Bucks, Panera, the movie theater, The Gap, and many other stores to window shop/buy.

Weclome to NJ

Hi J., I am also from TX and still relatively new to NJ but during the Christmas holidays we used Camp Bow Wow to board our dog and really liked them. Check out their website www.campbowwow.com for a list of locations. Good luck!

I live in Westfield as well. We have occasionally used Best Friends in North Plainfield and have NOT been happy. The facility smells when you arrive and your pets smell the same when you pick them up. The cat area was filthy the last time we were there. We have frequently used the Morris Animal Inn in Harding for 15 years -- it's well worth the drive for the quality of care your pet receives. We've been boarding labs there since they were puppies. They have a website you can look at --www.morrisanimalinn.com. The staff is friendly and caring, and any emergencies are handled expertly.
We also have two great sitters we use for short times away whom I highly recommend. I'm just not comfortable leaving my pets alone for more than a few days though many people do. Good luck with the transition from Texas to NJ; this must be a big culture shock, to say nothing of the snowy winter we've had!

Woodbridge Veterenary group,I have never used it but my neighbor works there and likes it, shouldn't be far from where you are. Here is their website http://www.woodbridgevetgroup.com/about/directions.asp

I have never used them, but on Route 22 in North Plainfield there is Best Friends. I've had friends who have used them and liked them for boarding and doggie day care. Their website is bestfriendspetcare.com. There is also a place in Fanwood called K9 Resorts. Their website is k9resorts.com. Again, I have never used them and I don't know anyone who has used them but it is another option to check out. Hope that helps! I would also google dog sitting in NJ and you will find a bunch resources.

There is a delightful woman in Edison who watches (and takes exceptional care) of my dog when we travel. She once even took care of him when he had a broken leg while we were on our honeymoon. I wouldn't have trusted anyone else.

If you are interested in a great home care situation as opposed to boarding, send me a personal message and I will give you her contact information.

Edited to add: She takes care of them in her home, not yours. She even sleeps with my dog. :)

My son and I watch dogs for people when they are away.. we usually watch the dog at the persons home.. like come over early in the a.m. let dog out.. feed, check water, come back in the afternoon and take dog for a nice long walk.. play a little in the yard, clean up after dog, and then again around 6 let out and again around 9 for the evening. I don't know if this works for you.. but maybe when you go on smaller trips.. we can help out. We live in Scotch Plains.. I'm in my 40's and my son is 13.. we do it together.. we also water plants, and pick up mail, newspapers.. while people are away... ____@____.com
email if you want more info.. and good luck.. you'll love Westfield .. it's a nice place to raise a family.. and has a great down town. and come fun festivals during the year.
