Birthday Present for Dad

I'm looking to get ideas for birthday gifts "to dad from son". My son is only 17 months old so I would need to help with crafty presents, which is no problem. I want to give my husband something meaningful, but cannot think of anything besides a framed picture for the office and we did that for Father's Day. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!

What can I do next?

When my son was that age we got him a soda can/bottle cooler holder from WalMart for $9.99 with the EAGLES logo. He loved it! It was inexpensive and my son handed him the gift!
good luck

I had my son give my husband a coffee mug with my son's photo. My husband loves it and uses it everyday. If you go on Personalized gifts web site they have great ideas. I uploaded the photo with the saying I wanted on the mug without leaving home.

I has recommendeed this book to several people and it would be great for your very young son to give his dad. Its "The Dangerous Book For Boys". Its not really dangerous, but filled with good, timeless male centered activity. You can inscribe it with some thing like this : Dear Daddy, I know that I am just little, but can you read this and be my future partner in crime? I'm gonna need some help! Love__________and have your son scribble his "name" below too :)

I know you said you already gave a framed picture last year but I found this idea super cute. Take pictures of your son holding signs. One with "I" then "love" "you" "dad" and get a frame that has space for 4 pictures. Or you can do 3. I saw someone do this and we will be doing it for Father's Day because it looks so cute! Another suggestion...things with pictures on it like a mousepad, tie, coffee mug...etc. Hope that sparks some ideas!

For our first Christmas after our son was born, I got my husband a coffee mug that was engraved with "Daddy" on the side. He uses it every morning. It is what I think is called sand blasted (it is engraved right on the mug, no metal plate or anything).

Hope this helps =O}

My wife got me a coffee mug with my son's artwork and I use it all the time. I really love it. She got it at www.sharemykidsart.com. We have since used that site to send gifts to grandparents as well. Good luck!

Pick up a denim tie and stamp a footprint on it. My daughter gave this to her dad when she one and now she is 13 and my husband wears it for all her special times - like her communion and her graduation coming up this year.

I went on Snapfish or Kodak (one of the picture places on-line) and bought my husband a tie with all these little pictures of my son on it. It's really adorable and my husband loved it.

What about something for father & son to do togeather. What does your husband feel comfortable with or like to do & set something up. A smaller local sporting event could be fun & not to overwhelming for a 17 month old. Or if you like the craft Ideas put togeather a kit for them to make that materpiece togeather. There is really nothing more meaningful at this age then time.

I used to work in a daycare center and 1 thing that we did for fathers day was take plain t-shirt. It can be any type of lite color. We then got the fabric paint and painted the bottom of the kids bare feet and let them walk across the shirt. We did this with children from the age of 6 months to 10 years old. Then on the shirt with the fabric paint we wrote "I walk all over my daddy", then put the kids' name and year on the shirt. All the fathers LOVED them.

When I first did this my son was 14 months old. He is now 6 and my husband just now decided to put the shirt away for keepsakes (he did wear it from time to time). I also made one that same year for the grandparents. My daughter was born in feb. of 07 and I did this again with both children on 1 shirt for my husband for fathers day in 07. Out of presents that my children have given my husband I think he treasures those the most. The only thing is make sure you have a piece of cardboard between the shirt so that the paint doesnt go thru the other side.

Good Luck

Why don't you make a tee-shirt ? You could either paint your sons hands and stamp them on the front, or do his feet and write something like, I love you, Dad, and sign it for your son.

I know lots of men who wear tee shirts that say "world's best Dad" type of thing, that are homemade by the kids.

Does he have anything with your little ones hand print in it?? My MIL made my husband and I ornaments for Christmas with our daughter's hand print in it. I have one hanging out all year round because I loved it so much. And now that she's 4, I look at it and remember when she was so little. Another thing I've done for my husband is make him a collage. I pick out pics of him and our kids, him and me, etc. Then I cut around them and glue them on to cardboard backing. He hangs it in his office at work and all his co-workers love them. He currently has 2, but will have a third this Christmas. He loves being able to look up at the pictures when he needs a break at work.

Another t-shirt idea: you can put your son's hand prints on a shirt with "Best Dad...hands down" on it. Also really cute.

Also, if your husband uses the computer a lot, you can have a photo mouse pad made with a favorite picture. Personal, but also useful. I think that was one of my husband's favorites.

I have my children make gifts for fathers day, for my husband, dad, and godfathers. some that we have done in the past are t-shirts with the kids footprints that say my children walk all over me, you could frame it. we have also done pajama pants with daddy on the butt. my favorite is we make ties for them to wear to work or you could also display them in a frame. i bought ties that were yellow/gold and had my kids use their fingers. we dipped their thumbs in black paint and then put them on the tie, we made them into bees, they turned out really cute and everyone at work just adores them. hope this helps.

I would suggest either a digital photobook of pictures of them in it or you can do a desktop calendar for him with pictures of him with his son in it. I help other Mom's with these each year so if you're interested, I would love to help!

If you go to AC Moore or Michaels, they have these kits where you make a garden stone. It's cement, so you do most of the work but you can imprint his hands (or feet) and then it comes with jems to decorate and you can put it by the front door or uder a tree in the yard once it sets. The ones I did even came with glass stones that you could put a picture under and I was able to put the childs picture, then carve in their name and date, and a few decorative jems. I just love doing these and we have one for each of my kids, as does each grandparent.

I LOVE the footprint/handprint painted on a t-shirt idea! I made these for my parents when my son was about your son's age and they LOVED them. For my stepdad's I bought a pocket tee and put O. little footprint on the pocket. So cute! And not too hokey for a guy to actually wear! You could also do handprints too. In a few years you will be amazed that his hands and feet were ever that little!
Just use paints for fabric...use a little sponge to apply the paint and press onto the shirt--then immediately run hi foot/hand under water & dry off or you will have a HUGE mess! :)

This is always a hard one for me as well! You could buy one of those cute memory books for him to fill out for your son. It's a way to pass on family stories and memories.

We've gone to the paint your own pottery places a couple of time. I did handprint on a tile to use as a coaster for the office. Handprint on anything looks nice. Some ideas are tiles for coasters, big mugs, etc.

You can make a nice book on mypublisher.com that you download pictures and put in your own quotes. Thats a really nice gift. Also, you could go to a paint your own pottery place and do handprint tiles or plates or a mug. You could get some stretched canvas at Michaels and have him finger paint a 'masterpiece' for his office.

Have fun!

Go to a craft store like Michael's or Pat catan's they have these plaster of paris kits that you make that you can put your sons handprint or footprint in. Then after it dries he can paint it. they usually turn out really nice. We did these with my nieces when they were little. I want to do one for my son at Christmas time to make an ornament for the tree. Have fun.
