This is my husband's first Father's Day as well. I found this really neat website (www.zazzle.com) and made him a coffee mug with pictures of our son on it.

I bought a kit at a craft store to do my daughters hand imprint but she was way too squirmy. I ended up doing it with pink paint. She is almost 7 now and we still have that memory up in our bedroom from her first year. Add a picture and it will be something he will treasure forever. She loves to look at it as well and see how she has grown.

Another idea I got off of another parenting list: Start an album and each year ink your husband and child's hand next to each other so you have a record of how your child is growing. And on the facing page pictures of the two of them together from the previous year.

This is my husband's first father's day and I'm going to start that. It's meaningful and not very expensive.

I bought a stepping stone cement kit at Hoby Lobby and put my son's hand and feet prints on it with "Happy Father's Day 2007" written in using a toothpcik. My husband loves it and I am thinking about donig it every year, now. Hope this helps.

A friend of mine bought a photo tie from walmart.com last year. It was really neat and personal.

Photo collages or nice Father or Daddy frames are also nice.

It is my husbands 1st father's day, as well! We have a 10 month old son. I made him a photo book from shutterfly.com. You just upload your fave pics of dad and baby and you can pick layouts, color schemes and add little captions to the pictures. And it's not too expensive, maybe btw $30-40. Hope this helps!

Check www.familyfun.com you might find some ideas there. I had my kiddos stamp there hands on some cardstock to be put in a double frame. Then I'm going to type in this really touching poem call My Daddy's Hand ( I think that's it) and put it in the other framed part, with some other decorations and such. I'm sure he's going to love it, my even bring a tear to his eye. Good Luck! He'll love whatever you do, it's his first Father's Day!

I have a couple of ideas for your husbands 1st fathers day. Have a calendar made of pictures of him and the baby that you have taken since the baby has been born. Have a picture of you and the baby done for the month of his birthday. My husband and I have 4 children who are all grown now but he loves pictures of him and the kids when they were small. For my husbands first fathers day, my son was about the same age as yours. I got a picture frame from Target that is made to hold a picture on one side and a handprint mold on the other side. I got a picture of the two of them with a Worlds Greastest Father border printed out and accompanied it by our son's handprint and inscribed the date in the molding clay.
He has treasured that frame since day one....it is on his night stand!

Hi K.! My son is 8 months and my hubbys first father's day also! (he's a step-dad to my older son but this is his first true father's day) Well, I am going to go to Hobby Lobby and get a plaster mold and put my sons handprint and footprint in it with their photo and poem and with my older son, me and him went to a store and got a kids golf training putter and 2 golf hats that are matching and he's going to give the hat to him and ask him to take him golfing. (hubs already has a whole set of everything golf!) Those are the things we are doing! Hope it gives you an idea of some sort! Take Care

For my hubby's first father's day I went to james avery and got him the boy head charm and has our son's initials and birth date engraved in it. Now, after our daughter was born last year there was no waiting, he got her's when I was on maternity leave because he requested it! It's a little something he can wear everyday that sits close to his heart :)

My husband drinks coffee like no tomorrow, so for Fathers' Day I bought the Make-Your-Own Mug you can get at Hallmark. You just unscrew the bottom cap, insert a picture that he really likes, decorate with stickers and markers that come with the kit and PRESTO! you have a very personalized travelling coffee mug.

Last fathers day gift my kids gave to dad, was a collage with pictures of him and his two boys. A poem in the middle expressing what daddy is to them. Put a title on top Wolds Greatest Dad, and framed it. I think so far that was daddys best present ever. Good luck, Im thinking myself what will be this years gift.

For my husbands first father's day last year I started a scrapbook, now I'm not crafty by any means. So, I made one page of all pictures of him and our son through the first year, then on the opposite page I made a page that said Father's day 2007 and put their names on it and left a space for them to put their hand prints using finger paint. Every year I will make a new page of pictures and then they will make a hand print page opposite it. I thought it would be a fun way to watch our son grow into a man. My husband loved it and our now 21 month old son love to look at his "Daddy book".

you can try and find a panited pottery paint place. If you cant find one over in your area theres one at bay area blvd and hwy 45. Over there you can pick out a plate orderment or mug and paint it. I would suggest you do it now cause it takes about a week or two for them to cook it so it will shine. My son did one for me like 4 years ago. One year my sister went to one of those kiosks in the mall and purchased a silver picture frame that has a heart on it which was engraved specially for him by the company. They also gave her a free keychain that was engraved as well!

I started a scrapbook for my husband last year. I created one page with pictures of him and our son doing various activities. I plan to add a page each year. As our son gets older I will have him help to contribute to the page by adding drawings, writing stories or poems, etc. You might consider doing something like that. You could even put the scrapbook page into a frame for this year(some craft stores have frames that hold a 12"x12" page) and them move the page into the scrapbook next year and use the frame for next year's page.

get him a piece of jewlry ,like a watch and have that engraved on it ,then it will always will be with him to remind him of the love hr is coming home too

Write your Husband a wonderful letter from your son to his Dad--telling how special he is and how God had the perfect plan when he made you my Dad. Include little bits of praise and plant seeds of how great it will be when "we are able to spend time together--talk--camp--play ball--etc" Imparting love and respect. then you can do the ame thing from a wifes view.

Its ours first fathers day too. My husband asked for a play station portable. it was too expensive and i know he will never use it. i remembered how he has been wanting a recliner so i am thinking of going to a discout store and finding one. good luck hope you get lots of ideas because i am reading them too.

There is a really great website called onetruemedia.com. Here you can download pictures that you have taken with daddy and son up till now and add music. You can make a montage and include captions if you want. You can also download songs that you like if you don't like the one's provided. You can get this in a DVD and you can even create your own DVD cover. There are also things you can do like picture books too. I made a DVD for my son's whole first year. It was a big hit and much easier than scrapbooking! They do have a Father's Day Special going on now. Good Luck!!

I got my dad a tie with all his grandchildren on it, I got my husband a t-shirt. There are lots of great gifts.

We always get my husband a new Hawaiian shirt for Father's Day. It is his version of the tie. He loves them and can wear them when he wants to be a little bit silly. It really just captured who he was as a father, colorful and just a little goofy. He says that he loves to wear them because it reminds him of his girls. He has enjoyed them so much that he has started a Hawaiian shirt day at work once a week.
Think of something that he will use and fits his personality, even if it is a little silly, something that he will use and enjoy to think of his baby.

Hi My name is J. and my son will be 2 in July. For my husband's first father day, I make him a story using photos of just him and our son, or pics of them individually doing something similar at different times (like weird sleeping positions) he absolutely gushed over it and I'm going to do year 2 for this father's day.

I just glued the pics to foam and typed up funny strips about the photo, but making it sound like a story.

I have a really cute idea! You can have your nine month old paint him a picture! (not exactly a picasso painting, but you get the idea...) Go to michaels and get some non toxic paints, a canvas and a frame. Sit your son in his high chair and let him go at the canvas. Then you can paint at the bottom the date and that its his first fathers day! (of course, make sure baby doesn't put his hands in his mouth but if he does, its non-toxic!)
