My daughter is invited to a birthday party of a boy we don't very well who is turning nine. Any suggestions on a birthday present? I have a lot of ideas for girls that age but am clueless about boys! I know he likes sports, but don't know any of his favorite teams. Any help would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

As the mom to 2 boys and I'm a 4th grade teacher, Legos are very cool and if he likes sports then gift card to Sports Authority would be good too. GOod luck!

My son is turning 9 soon. Kaycee is right. Anything that he can build or anything Star Wars will be a sure hit!

Legos. They were always a hit with our son.

I loved the pup tent idea.

At that age, my daughter was given one that popped open like those laundry bags/windshield covers. It barely fit two kids, but she slept in it alone often, even inside the house. At first, no one but me could fold it up, but she slowly got the hang of it after experimenting a bit.

Movie ticket gift card?

a bulletin board decorated with favorite sports team or "hero"? (and maybe a hammer and some picture hanging hardware?)

A tool kit - of real tools - not toys. (hammer, pliers, screwdriver, etc.)

hackysack(sp?) balls

have fun!

Hi,

I have purchased footballs, basket balls and the best gift I have given a little boy that age was a "pup tent" that sleeps 2 to 4 people. I bought an inexpensive pup tent for him and he played in it alot and really loved it.

If you know someone else going to the party you can possibly purchase a gift together. It is nice to get a little a nicer gift from two people sometimes. I think the little boy would enjoy any of these gifts.

My whole family was the same way when I got my, at the time, 7-year old step son. Overall, weapons of mass destruction...swords, guns, light sabers, bow and arrows, nerf dart guns, super soaker water guns, sling shots. Or on a more peaceful note, anything you can build with...legos, k'nex, not so much licoln logs, but all of those other things. Superheroes are always cool, like the Hulk punching gloves and chest, Star wars anything is always a hit around here, either action figures or ships, or the lego ships are cool too! Hope that helps!

I have 2 boys, 4 and almost 8. What I do know about boys is they can like very different things... but always LOVE MONEY! Maybe wrap a wallet (they have spiderman etc at Walmart) with some money in it...cold hard cash! Then he can get what he wants.. or add it to other allowance or gift money for something big!

Hi M.,
How about a gift card? That way you'll be sure to get what he likes!

My grandson is 13 now, but when he was 9 he loved anything to do with magic tricks or telling silly jokes. He also loved things he could build, so anything that is age appropriate that he could put together might be enjoyed. My grandson also loved dinosaurs and any type of deep-sea creature. Good luck! I hope you find something in time and that your daughter has a great time! God bless!!
