Birth Control with No Peirods

I have been on a birth control for about 6 years and it has made me never have peirods.
Every Year I go in to see My OBGYN she says it is fine and not to worry, but my friends are really worried that I don't have them. I thought it was great. I never cramp, never have issues.....it is like it is not there. If I do stop the pill or skip pills, I will spot eventually. I can't find research to support such a thing and that it is not good for a woman to not have peirods. I do think it makes me mello and somewhat blaugh. I wounder if I got off it for a while it will change my hormones and I will be more excited of things or laugh more or just be different in personality. ANY ADVICE

What can I do next?

I have been on depo-provera shots for 8 years and have not had any problems at all with having no period. I just visited my dr last week asking about any potential long term effects and she said she was not aware of any. As a matter of fact, depo is sometimes used to stop periods for pre-teens and teens who experience painful periods!

Within a year of stopping the depo (after being on it 7 years) I gave birth to my 3rd daughter and had the easiest pregancy and delivery of all my children.

First, consider why you are taking the pill. Is is hormone replacement or actual birth control. I took the pill for a while and then just took myself off it and I regulated my period. I also gained a lot of weight when I took the pill.

No period could mean a number of things...over weight? under weight? Some olympic female athletes don't get thier period. When I was really over weight I didn't get a period either. Are you skipping a week between packets? And I'm wondering about your doctor saying it's ok not to get a period. Perhaps you should get another opinion about what is happening.

I had the same situation. When I first was put on the pill I had them but gradually went to hardly having them if I even did. They then switched me to the Depo shot & I never had them unless I didn't get my shot. My obgyn said not to worry.. One of my sisters hasn't had a period sense her first sone was born (he just turned 21) & her Obgyn is not worried.. As long as your obgyn has knowledge of you not having them then I wouldn't worry to much..

I was on birth control for several years with no period. I loved it! No uncomfortable systems, no worries about not having a pad/tampon when it started, etc. When I finally got off birth control, I did start to have a period, but after 3 years of not being able to get pregnant, we finally discovered that I was not ovulating. My body would prepare the uterus for ovulation, which is what sheds when you have a period. However, for some reason, my ovaries were not releasing follicles (eggs) on their own. I do now know if there is research out there to support a link between the two, but I've often wondered if the hormones in birth control pills, especially those that suppress a period, had some effect. I do not recall being more mello on BC, but because you're taking hormones, that's definitely a possibility. Unless there is some medical reason for you're taking birth control, I would recommend stopping the meds and using other forms of birth control to see if you're body can get "back to normal" on it's own. Good luck!

We're made to have periods for a reason...when you mess with nature it can come back to bite you. I ended up in the ER thanks to birth control pills. I had prolonged bleeding when my body didn't shed the uterine lining like it normally would through a period, and it was a very scary event for me, so I can't imagine what not having a period would do. You haven't had any problems obviously so that's a good thing, but I'd start digging deeper for research, even outside the tradtional medical field. You may ultimately decide to stay where you are, but you at least deserve to have the full story and be fully informed--any doc who says it's ok for women to not have periods via artificially surpressing them--when we've been designed or evolved or whatever--to have them, isn't fully informed. There's a reason why periods happen...to rid the body of the uterine lining when pregnancy hasn't occured. I'm proof of what can happen without that happening properly.

On the other hand, there is something called Maya Abdominal Massage that can really help with bad period symptoms and with endometriosis, fibroids, etc. I've had it done in the past and it's helped me a lot with conception, mood swings, etc. If a body isn't balanced, then horrible symptoms and problems can occur and Mayan Abdominal Massage (or Arvigo Mayan Abdominal Massage) can really help.

They have ALL KINDS of B/C coming out on the market that either greatly reduce, or completely stop your periods. I've heard that if you are NOT trying to get pregnant, there is NO reason whatsoever, medically or physicaly, that you would NEED to have a period. It's not like it's something we miss!! :) I had the Mirena IUD inserted after my daughter was born in 2005 and they told me, USUALLY, after six months, most women experienced little to no periods at all. In the last year, I want to say I've had it 5 times. I used to spot randonly here and there, but haven't had a "normal flow" since a few months after insertion. I think as long as YOU'RE ok NOT having your periods, then everything is fine! Like I said, it's really only needed if you're trying to make little ones. Hope this helps! Good Luck with what ever you decide on. Remember, it's YOUR body, no one else's!

I have also been told that not having your period is perfectly safe. Now that I have not had one due to pregnancy and breastfeeding (my baby is 15-months-old) for 2 years, I believe that it is perfectly natural to not have your period. Good luck.

This link will take you to the explanation of what you are doing. It looks like it is okay. I would check into the side effects, though, or talk to my OB about them - as far as your lack of enthusiasm goes. http://www.webmd.com/sex/birth-control/features/new-no-pe...

I hear what the other moms are saying, but my Dr. said otherwise. While it may be safe to go with out for a while you should atleast have one every six months. She told me there could be long term side effects. The truth about the side effects is kind of an unknown right now becuase the newer birth controls have different hormones the older ones didn't have. And until these women get older we won't really know. I was on the pill to slow down the efftects of Endometriosis, so I took only the first three weeks of each pack then started a new one. I was told to have break once a year to let my body get rid of waste naturally.
