I want to have the mirana taken out because it is causing me problems. I don't want another baby anytime soon, but the pill fails me everytime, IUDS are out of the question and I want more kids so a tubal is out of the question! The shot caused two people I know to miscarry and my friend got pregnant on nuva ring and it caused problems in her twins. I used condoms for awhile and never got pregnant but when I got on the pill I got pregnant three months later! Any ideas of what I could use/do! Oh and no sex (not going to happen)

What can I do next?

All birth control has failure rates. There is no such thing as ideal birth control - but you have an array to choose from:
- go back to condoms, if your partner is ok with it
- you can enhance the efficiency of condoms by using a second barrier method such as a cervical cap or spermicide at the same time
- read up about the copper IUD (Paraguard) it might not give you the same side effects as Mirena, which contains hormones
- natural family planning (in combination with condoms)
- Implanon
Speak to your doctor about the different options and what might work for you, given your medical history.

Good luck!

Condoms are yucky, stupid and gross but they work. I am in the same boat as you and have considered having my mirena taken out as well. I just think something inside is not normal and some of our bodies reject it. I got pregnant twice on the pill. Used it faithfully even though my inlaws to this day raise their eyeballs at it. I will be watching for answers on this one.

Read Taking Control of your Fertility. Eye opening. It will basically tell you how to do natural birth control. It will teach you what your body is doing when and what to look for to avoid or to get pregnant. It will really teach you a lot. If you can't use all those other things this would be your route to go. OR you could always take a natural planning class at your local Catholic Church.

It sounds like you are very uninformed about the risks, benefits, and proper use of birth control. I would suggest having a more open dialogue with your doctor about these issues. Make a patient education visit because there are clearly some misunderstandings. And if your doctor won't sit down with you, my suggestions is to find a doctor who will. You need to be able to trust your doctor's advice and your birth control.

You could use a combination of natural family planning (tracking BBT, mucous, etc...) combined with condoms. Stay clear of sex or use condoms during your more fertile times, and based on your situation condoms or nothing when there is no danger of ovulation. Lots of good books out there on Natural Planning. Best case, no dangerous side-effects, just have to make sure you stck rigidly to it to avoid the "oops, I'm pregnant" factor.

If condoms work for you, you could combine that with natural family planning. You basically learn your cycle and when you are fertile and abstain during those days. It worked for me for 7 years. And as soon as we were ready to have children again, I knew my cycle so well that it was very easy to conceive. Good luck!

Your question pretty much answers itself. Condoms and natural family planning seem like your best bet for now. Hormone based birth control mess up your system anyway and almost always make you gain weight and feel sluggish and moody.

I have a genetic predisposition to blood clots called Factor V Liden so I cannot take any hormone based birth control which increase the risk of such an event. We used condoms and natural family planning and never accidentally got pregnant. We had planned a vasectomy for my husband after the birth of our fifth and last child, but I ended up with an emergency C-section, so I got a tubal at that time. You may want to look into one of these options (vasectomy or tubal ligation) after you're sure you're done having children.

I have Implanon. After having problems with both the copper IUD and the Mirena I needed something that didn't rely on me. See, I get baby hungry pretty easily so I needed something that I couldn't "accidentally" forget to take since my husband says we are done. Implanon is flexible plastic rod your doctor inserts under the skin. It slowly releases etonogestrel. It's good for 3 years so there is no long term commitment. I believe a physician has to have special training on how to insert it properly so that could be one reason why your physician hasn't mentioned this option. They might not be qualified to insert it. I haven't had any side effects from it except maybe some weight gain but I can't really tell if the weight gain is from the Implanon or from my love of sweets. I tend to think it is the sweet thing. You can read more about it at http://www.implanon-usa.com/consumer/whatisimplanon/index...

Hormones and I do not get along so my hubs and I use condoms. We have to use the polyurithane ones since I am allergic to latex. It works for you, with no issues, so that seems to be the answer to your question.

I just had my copper IUD removed the day before yesterday after having multiple problems with it. I so was hoping I had found the hormone-free, easy, and reliable birth control I'd been looking for for years. Still no luck.

I was fitted by my doctor for a diaphragm. I like it because it is hormone and latex free (it is made of silicone). I can put it in many hours before sex, and take it out the next morning. You can leave it in for up to 24 hours. It's going to take some getting used to...getting it in and out. But I am excited...no condoms, and it's 95% effective. It's used in combination with spermicide.

Good luck!!!

I would also suggest you look into natural family planning. Although not 100% many women find it to be useful. Definitely talk to your OB/GYN because there could be other options for you. There are many different birth control pills out there. Different strengths, combinations of hormones etc. Just because one didn't work doesn't mean another won't. I have been on the pill for many years and have had to switch a few times. Currently Alesse is working well for me.

Talk to your Dr. maybe they can perscribe the morning after pill. I seem to remember them becoming available w/ out perscription in emergency situations at local pharmacies but I would think you would need to talk to your Dr. to see if it is something you really want to do. You could also map out your ovulation cycles and work the other types of natural methods but I would again talk to your Dr. I am prone to UTI's so my husband and I almost always use a condom and I have been on the Nuva Ring on and for a few years for those times when we don't want to use a condom. You could also search birth control for Catholic's. The Catholic Religion prohibits the use of contraceptives so there should be some info out there for the natural methods:) Good Luck
