What kind have you had the most success/least side effects with?? I'm thinking about trying nuvaring?? or the patch?
I've never been comfortable with the fact that chemical birth controls, like the shot, pill, patch, etc. regulated my body so rigidly. And all the side effects, and possible side effects. I have always used condoms, abstinence, or if I'm with a partner I love and trust, he pulls out before ejaculating. But that last is dicey, and really have to trust and know the other person. Condoms have always worked for me.
To be honest - the natural planning method. Which basically means you chart your body and don't have sex during ovulation times.

have you considered an IUD? I have the mirena IUD - I LOVE it. I have had the least side effects with it than any other birth control. I tried the Nuvaring....I gained weight with it. At first I didn't notice any mood swings on the nuvaring, but as I used it longer the more moody I got. I haven't tried the patch..... Hope you find something that works well for you!
IUD - copper. I have had no side effects, save a very heavy period (but not with bad cramping) 2 days out of the month. I love it.
I tried several pills that I didn't like, tried the Nuva Ring, but it kept falling out even when the doctor put it in. I think I liked the patch the best because you only had to mess with it once a week and it never came off on it's own. It can have some kind of stronger side effects, but I did fine on it.
Lutera...works wonderful on my skin, no side effects and I've been taking them for years.............................
I used the patch a lot...I used it after my son was born 7.5 years ago. I got off of it to try for #2, which was no problem. Then I got on it again after nursing my daughter & went for #3. #3 is only 8mos old, so I'm still nursing. But when I'm done, I'll probably use it again. I liked not having to remember the pill every day. I stuck it on my butt and had no problem with it. The first 3 or so days it was a little itchy, but it was just like having a bandaid on. I never had any side effects with it. You change it once a week, then leave it off for week 4 for your period, then stick another back on. I've never tried the nuvaring before, but I'll take the patch any day over the pill!
The absolute worst experience for me was the Depo shot...receiving 3 months of hormones at once was brutal. I had terrible sweating spells - daily, every day for months for no reason....
I used to use the NuvaRing and I LOVED it ... well, the absolute best is my husband's vasectomy :)
I have used the pill (and forgot to take them daily) and also used a diaphragm and that was a huge pain
I have looked into lots of them. The secretary at my OB said that lots of women come in to have their mirena iud's removed due to bad side effects (pain, etc), and i've heard mixed reviews about the copper iud. And I don't do well with hormones. So I've been using the today sponge while also not doing it while ovulating. The sponge is like 85%, whereas the condom is 90%, so it's up there in effectiveness.
I don't like the idea of puting any chemicals in my body, I feel even when you're off of the birth control it still lyes in your body & when you do become pregnant then that passes on to the baby. I just found an article that said 99% of pregnant women were found tobe full of Banned toxic chemicals! What do you think that does to the baby inside? Anyways, so I just don't like or use any form of chemical bc. I've tried condoms, but that just isn't great, so I practice the nfp, natural family planning method. It works great, I've never gotten pregnant whenI didn't want to be off that method! But it's def not for those who want the easy peasy way. It takes work & self control but I love it & it actually turns me on more & makes us enjoy sex more on the non firtile days. LoL We want to take full advantage on my non-fertile days instead of heaving it as our convience whenever however whereever we want it so to say, so we appriciate it more when we can have it. That sounds odd, LoL
I am a HUGE advocate of the IUD - but only if you're married or in a monogamous, long term relationship. I am on my 3rd IUD, the ParaGard (it's made of copper which is a natural spermacide) and has only one side affect, a heavier than normal period for 1 or 2 days during your cycle. It took my body about 3 or 4 months to adjust to it - had really heavy periods during those times, but after that...smooth sailing. It has never hurt having it put in or taken out and I was able to get pregnant immediately both times I planned to get prego - I have 4 boys now. I will never use anything else. Anything with hormones gives me major negative side affects and issues, so I stay far away from them. This has been a godsend birth control method for me. Good luck with your decision!
