Hey out threre.

I am sick of shaving and wanted to get an idea of how painful a bikini wax job is and how long it lasts? How much does it cost and is it worth it to go to a more expensive place? I also was looking to find a good place to go. I live just south of Salt Lake. Thanks for all your help in advance and have a great day!

What can I do next?

Bikini wax will be cheaper and it only lasts so long. For a long term fix consider laser hair removal. It's more expensive, and it will take several sessions, but the hair is gone forever. I had my legs and bikini area done about 8 years ago. My under arms are all I need to shave now.

If you are looking for just a bikini wax - I don't think it hurts that bad. I get brazilian's done and it is much more painful. If it is your first time or you haven't gone in months, it hurts more. It also depends on how much/how coarse your hair is. I have a friend that won't even wax her eyebrows b/c it is too painful for her. So it also depends on your pain tolerance.

For an area like that, I would suggest paying a little more or going to a "nicer" place. There is more of a chance that the person knows what they are doing. I have gone to a cheaper place, only on a suggestion from a friend and I had no problem. I have also gone to a person's home that had everything set up in a room in her basement. It was professional, just like in a salon. She worked from home around her family needs. It really just depends on the person and their skill/knowledge/experience. I currently go to a nicer place (since I had to find a place on my own without any friend suggestions when I moved here) and I would rather pay a little extra than to risk anything to that area!

Also, don't go there fully grown out. I heard that they will send you home b/c they can't wax full length hair down there and they aren't gong to trim you down. Since you are shaving, you just need to let it grow out a little.

Depending on your hair growth, it should last about a month. A price around $40 to $50 would seem reasonable to me (for a brazilian - just a bikini would be cheaper). I have seen them as low as $25.00.

I live north of SLC, so I can't help you out with a location. I would suggest just calling around. When I first moved to Utah, that is what I did.

I hurts a lot not going to lie to you...but I would never shave the bikini area. It's just too sensitive and it grows back right away. The stubble alone would be a nightmare. Waxing is absolutely the way to go. You'll probably need to wax once a month to start, then less as time goes on. Alternatively you might want to look into laser hair removal. After years of waxing, I'm now doing laser hair removal because finding the time to wax is a challenge with two small children. Laser removal hurts a lot too, but it's permanent.

OUCH! I had it done twice, and both times I swore I'd never do it again. Maybe some people are less 'sensitive' than others, but it hurt a ton for me.

My recommendation: Save up your waxing money, keep shaving for a while, and then bite the bullet and get laser hair removal. Wish I'd done that sooner. The results I got were phenomenal, and although I had some 8 laser sessions, they were not nearly as painful as waxing, and now I don't have to do a thing - except maybe trim once in a while (I only did bikini - not daring enough for brazilian).

Hi A. - it's no worse than a leg wax. I would imagine going for the whole shebang could involve a little more pain than that. I would go to a place that focuses on waxing to make sure everything is clean, etc. Cost for a normal bikini wax is around $30-$40. You wouldnt have to go again for 4-6 weeks and the next time is 100% easier than the first.

I gave birth naturally 2 times with horrible back labor. I don't get bikini waxes ;)
I just don't care enough to go through the pain.
They last 4-6 weeks, if I remember correctly.

I have only got a Bikini wax & leg wax twice (right before I got married, so 5 years ago). It was very painful for me but I do have VERY sensitive skin, and I think I paid around $25 each time (not sure if that is high or low). Other friends that get bikini waxes regularly says that with time the pain gets less or maybe one just gets use to it (they said after a few months). Some of my friends go in ever other month to get waxed while one of them goes in once a month.

Honestly I have decided to save up money to get laser hair removal (at least for my legs, have not looked into the bikini area laser hair removal yet). To me this is something that would be worth the money and hopefully will save me money in the end :)

Have you ever had anything waxed? I had my eyebrows waxed 1 time, it hurt. I will NEVER wax anything on my body. I must have sensitive skin I ended up with bumps for over a week. I couldn't even imagine the pain that would cause. If you've never had anything waxed, start with your eyebrows or legs before going there. Good luck.
