Behavior at Bath Time

I was wondering if anyone else's child has had an UNEXPLAINABLE change of heart about bathtime. My daughter,11 months old, loved bathtime up to a week ago. Then for NO apparent reason she now starts to scream and cry even when we get close to the bathroom/tub. We did have her in an infant tub and that was inside the larger tub for about 1 1/2 months. She wasn't harmed/burned by hot water nor was there an incident that her father or I can think of to explain her change of heart. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Whenever we travel my 13 month old freaks when he is in a "regular" tub. At home we use an inflatable tub and I think he just feels more secure in it. It is also less slippery. This may help.

It is similar to this:

It is just a phase. For one of mine, we were able to get him back in by playing with water toys with us sitting outside the tub. It didn't take long for him to want to get in. For my daughter, we got her in by me taking a bath and her wanting to come in. Again, it thankfully didn't take long for her to want to come in and for her to want me out! Like so many things, just keep encouraging without pushing and she'll come around.

This happened with my son for about two weeks, then he just stopped again. During that two weeks, my husband or I would get in the tub with him and put him on our laps. That seemed to help during that time. He loves his bath and takes one each day. So, it is probably just a phase since she like the bath before. Good luck!

Hi T.,

My daughter did the same thing with water. I ended up getting in the tub with her and playing games etc. It passed after a few weeks...Nothing has to happen in order for them to develop a fear...it's natural from what I understand in talking to our doc.

Good luck and have fun in the tub.
