Bee Sting?

My daughter was sitting on a picnic table at daycare with her teacher. Something stung her. This was around 3:30pmish.. I picked her up at 5pmish and her arm was swollen and had a red area about the size of a 3inch in diameter. She was given a icepack to put on her arm. Now it's 7:30pm she just got out of the bathtub and the red area and swelling are gone but there is a redspot about the size of a dime I think I see like a black dot or something too. I'm going to assume she got stung by a bee, or something similar. I'm allergic to bee's so this is some what of a relief but if the stinger is still in there what do I do? I tried the credit card scrape thing but it still looks like a darkish pin dot in the middle of the red bump. Or it looks like a teeny tiny blackhead but I know it's not. If the stinger is still in there can I leave it?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I checked her arm the next day and can't even see where the sting was, I wasn't in good enough lighting to see the black dot but her arm looked great overall.

I think the body will absorb it if you can't get it out.

Only the honey bee leaves her stinger (with its venom sac attached) in the skin of its victim. Since it takes two to three minutes for the venom sac to inject all its venom, instant removal of the stinger and sac usually reduces harmful effects. Scrape away with a sideways movement (one quick scrape) with a fingernail. Never try to use the thumb and forefinger or tweezers to pinch out the stinger since this maneuver forces (injects) more venom from the sac down into the wound.

Hi B.,

I remember getting a bee sting like this when I was about 9. We never were able to get the stinger out, and to this day it's in my thigh. It doesn't go deeper into the skin. It just sits there like a black dot - with a layer of skin grown over it. It's not painful and I have NEVER had any problems with it. I don't know how to get it out successfully, but just wanted to tell you that I don't think it's going to be a big deal if it doesn't come out. Like I said, mine has never caused me a problem.

;)

My step mom swears by putting a potato on any skin irritants. Just cut one in half, and put it cut side down for awhile. She says it will take out slivers and really helped my dad when he had an infection.

I don't know if you got it out yet but my mom used to pour something carbonated over it and my cousin uses eggs. she breaks the egg and takes that slimey membrane (the part between the hard part and the embryo) and puts it over the stinger and waits for it to dry and that usually will pull it out too.

If they are anything like getting a sliver, the body rejects it and eventually pushes it out itself, just watch for infection!!

Make a mixture of baking powder and water into a paste and put it on it a few times that should draw out the stinger if there is one.
