Battery Operated Breast Pump

I currently use the Medela pump in style electric breast pump.. and love it! I use it at work, in the car...where ever there is an outlet. However, I am going to DC for the day this saturday and will be taking the Metro (no A/C or outlet!) Does anyone have a GOOD recommendation for a battery operated breast pump. I'm hoping for a double pump.. but will settle for anything that will do the job without an outlet or any cords.

I understand I can just get a battery pack for my medela double electric pump... but is there any battery operated breast pump that is smaller and lighter weight for me to carry around DC?

What can I do next?

M.,

I use the Medela Freestyle, which is very small and light. For me, one full charge lasts a week, pumping twice a day. It is a double pump.

The medela pump with the battery operated part is amazing. I love using it. All you need to get is the electric pump part and just use it with your current pieces.

I had the Madela backpack, battery operated. I used it everyday and had no problem using it.

Doesn't help with the size issue, but I had the battery pack for my Medila pump in style. It took like 10 AA and didn't last too long - a few days, but would do the trick and might be cheaper?

I bought the battery pack for the Medela and it works great! I had tried other kinds but they didn't have the same power as the Medela and ended up taking forever. Using it 3-4x's a day for 20 minutes, the batteries usually lasted me a week and half before the power started dying. I would stick with the Medela.

Most of the battery operated pumps are really going to disappoint you ESPECIALLY if you're used to a good quality pump. However, since you're just going for the day, I'm assuming you're looking more for something to relieve some pressure/ avoid painful engorgement rather than to actually pump a bottle for baby. If that's the case, any of the small electric pumps should do the trick.

You know the pieces of the electric pump can actually be a hand pump as well. It's a little hard to describe the set up, but I'm sure you can figure it out or look up a diagram. Anyway, you basically screw the breast shield directly to the bottle on one end and the pully thing on the back and then pull the center part back on your own. That would be a cheap and easy way to get through this quick trip and only have to carry a couple of small plastic pieces.

That said... I'm trying to picture you pumping on the Metro and having a really hard time. If you want to carry a double pump, can't you just wait until you get to someplace with electricity?

Anyway, hope this helps,
T.
