Baptism Gift? - Houston,TX

My sister and I are hosting a brunch after my niece's baby's baptism. Sis was wondering if we should get the baby a little gift from us and if yes, what would it be? For a little girl we could do a cross necklace but since this is for a little boy-I have no idea. Is this something that is expected? Any suggestions on what? He will be getting a Bible from the church.
Thanks for any ideas!

What can I do next?

Lots of people give savings bonds and other forms of money for baptism. THere are also religious statues and crosses. Maybe a cross that can hang in his room over his bed? My boys each got one of these from a cousin at their baptisms.

I love the idea of getting children's religious books. I usually do books for just about any occasion! For our nephew's infant baptism, we gave a Noah's Arc piggy bank and had his name engraved on it. http://www.thingsremembered.com/product/Noahs-Ark-Bank/15...
The picture doesn't show how cute it actually is!

At our infant son's baptism earlier in the summer, he received LOTS of clothes. We also received gift cards, books, frames with a baptism theme, stuffed animals etc.

By the way, I would get something small and inexpensive because you are the host of the brunch, which is a gift in itself!

My favorite...a guardian angel for his room

I like the idea of a nice frame for a picture of the family the day of the baptism.
Blessings to you and the little one,
K.

A gold cross is appropriate for a boy as well. My son's godparents gave him one that he will wear when he's older.

Other than that, savings bonds and cash are always a traditional gift for religious occassions! If you are hosting the party, no need to go overboard- give what you can afford and I am sure it will be appreciated!

Hi E.,

My sons got a lot of wonderful books for their christenings. Some included young children's versions of the James Herriot stories. I LOVED that they received them! Later when they were older, because they had read the earlier books, they read the adult forms of his series, and so did I. The are wonderful!

My older son also received "The Velveteen Rabbit", but he didn't warm up to that one as much.

Oh, and take a lot of pictures. I am SO happy that I did, because 2 of the people holding my sons in the pictures are no longer alive. My older son just graduated from high school, and I made an album/scrapbook for him to take to college with him. These two people, plus one more who has end-stage Alzheimer's are prominent in these pictures, and I put them in the "People Who Love You" section of the book. He will always have that now.

Precious memories... have a wonderful time!

Try a Christian based gift shop. There is a wonderful selection and they have some inexpensive things as well as very nice things. I got a poem for both my kids with a penny included. It spoke about how we shall raise them and give the penny to them on there wedding day. It made me cry. I doubt it cost a ton it was the point to the poem that got me!

I always give a check. I figure the parents can buy religious items if they choose but more likely will put it in their child's bank account.
Since you are hosting the event then is that your gift?
