Is it reasonable to assume the last 5 lbs will come off when the breastfeeding stops? TIA... I'm just curious. I gained a whopping 57 while preggers (thanks to my uncontrollable need for Snickers and orange juice ha ha) and am just thankful to be so close to pre-prego weight 4 1/2 months later. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts.

Everyone is different. One of my friends gained 70 pounds with her pregnancy and then while breastfeeding lost all of that plus 10 pounds more. She looked amazing! For me I never lost it all until after I finished breastfeeding. My body just held onto those last 5 to 10 pounds. I'm happy to say that I did manage to slim down to my pre-pregnancy weight and sometimes less after each child was weaned. If you are motivated and determined to lose that weight than you will.

To lose my pregnancy weight I was drinking Mummy magic weight loss tea three times a day and shed almost all my pregnancy weight.

I know you've heard it, but, everyone is different. Remember, though, that breastfeeding burns an extra 500 calories per day, so unless you have been eating to account for that, and stop when you stop nursing, then no, your weight probably won't come off. I made that mistake - started eating well and excercising BEFORE I stopped nursing - and gained 30 lbs when my daughter weaned. I had lost all the pregnancy weight, and it all just came right back.

HAAHAHA-HAHAHA! 5LBS! AHAHA HAHAHAHA!

Sorry, I'm probably just jealous.

Yes, it is reasonable to expect that, unfortunately for me it was not reasonable to expect that of the last 20lbs :)

That is what happened to me but everyone is different. I was hanging on to that last 5 pounds that finally fell off a couple of months after weaning.

I kept five pounds with each of my kids, whether I breastfed or not. I hope that's not the case for you!

It is totally reasonable, you have extra fluid in your body and tissues. The fact you only have 5lbs is AWESOME! Really, I know 5lbs can feel like a lot especially if you are small person, but girl that is great! I wish that was all I had left!!lol:) I really think it will come right off. Congrats!

I lost all my weight when I breast feed and then put some back on when I stopped. Everyone is different in weight loss. Do your best but don't starve yourself. You need energy for your little one. I have accepted my mommy body and I am happy with it. Of course I did buy a one piece this year :)

Usually because we burn more calories naturally while breastfeeding, women tend to gain weight once the baby is weaned. The best thing to do is to continue eating healthy, watching your portions and add some exercise to boost your metabolism. I'm sure that last 5 lbs will come off or turn to lean muscle with some work! Remember it took 9 mos to put on the weight so it may take 9 to take it off, give yourself a little slack! The faster you lose the weight the more likely you are to gain it back so slow and steady is the way to go!

I had my third baby last November (2008)and am within 5 lbs of getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight. For me, I believe my last 5 lbs will come off when I get back to my pre-pregnancy exercise routine, whether or not I am still breastfeeding. I can't remember how long it took me to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight with my first two children but thankfully, I was able to do it without sacrificing anything.

For me, exercising is not just to help me get to and maintain a certain weight but also to tone up. I don't like feeling "mushy". Even though I am breastfeeding and am burning about 500 more calories than usual, I still watch what I eat and drink. Even though breastfeeding has helped me tremendously to drop the pounds, I also thank my children for keeping me so busy that I don't have downtime to really eat. :>)

Hope this helps,
K.
