When do children start having loose teeth and losing their baby teeth? I know all children are different, but I was just wondering the norm??
Thanks!

I have always heard that the later they got their baby teeth, the later they will lose them. (I have also heard that the longer they keep baby teeth, the stronger the permanent teeth are, but I don't know if that is true. I have one child who didn't lose his until he was 7 1/2. He has been slow to lose his (we found out he was actually missing some permanent teeth for whatever reason). Our daughter was over 6. We have two more kids to go. I teach kindergarten, and some years I have kids with a mouth full of lost teeth, some don't lose one that year.

My daughter lost her first tooth just before she turned 5 years old. Check out the Junie B. Jones series of books. I read them to my daughter from ages 4 to 6. There is a story where Junie B. loses a tooth. The whole series is great. It's about the adventures of a spunky girl in Kindergarten and First Grade. FYI, my daughter wouldn't let us pull out her teeth so I bought some Tootsie Rolls and had her slowly bite down on the Tootsie Roll with the loose tooth then yank the Tootsie Roll up and out. She had the first tooth out in about 10 minutes. Have a cup of cold water ready for rinsing, especially if the child is afraid of blood and be ready to put direct pressure on the hole if needed.

Good luck.

My 6 1/2 year old grand daughter has lost all 8 front teeth and her adult teeth are almost all in. She got her first tooth at about 4 months. The earlier the baby teeth come in the earlier they come out. My daughter actually had her first tooth at 3 months and by age 5 she had no teeth from eye tooth to eye tooth, top or bottom.

She is currently getting in her molars and is really growing some of her adult bones.

Once the 6 yr molars come in , baby teeth can become loose shortly after that. Some kids start to lose teeth around age 5 , some are older. My son is 7 , has had the 6 yr molars for around 6 months and still has no loose teeth.

My daughter turned 6 in January. She has lost 4 teeth and her top front teeth are super wiggly. She lost her first tooth when she was 5 1/2. =0)
