Baby Swing "Lean"

For my baby shower a few months ago, I got a Fisher-Price Papasan Swing. It allow me to swing my son side to side or front to back... I found that whenever I put my son in the swing now, he will imediately slump forward and to the right, and sort of "lean over" in the swing. After a few minutes of this, he is lying sideways in the swing. I thought that maybe he just didn't like the direction the swing was swinging, so I tried to change direction and reposition him. Nope. He does the same thing. I'm not sure what to make of this and I wonder if anyone else has had this issue with the Fisher-Price swings and their wiggle worms.

My son does this too! I first noticed it in his car seat about a month ago when he was about 3 months old. He strains forward like he's trying to break out. And now he wiggles down as soon as I put him in the car seat to avoid the straps. In his swing, even though it's fully reclined, he leans forward, or leans towards the side. I just make sure he is always strapped in properly into the swing or car seat whenever I put him in those things. I also noticed that he doesn't really care for the swinging part so much anymore, so I put him in without swinging. In retrospect, I think this leaning behavior may have been a precursor to rolling over, which my son just learned how to do 2 weeks ago, at 4 months.

The recline of the actual seat part of the papasan swing is adjustable - when the thing comes, its in full upright position, appropriate for a much older baby. We didn't figure that out until our baby was slumping forward in it too, and finally realized it HAD to have a better recline position.
Where the seat attaches to the pole (which then attaches it to the motor part) you will find the tilt of the seat can be adjusted. Make sure it is in FULL recline position, as in, tilted all the way back so that the baby is actually just resting cradled in the swing and not having to hold his own body position.

I have heard this of this before. It is a physical thing, something to do with balance, the ear, development etc. Can't remember what its called, maybe you could do a google search on it. Have you checked previous posts here? But its got nothing to do with the chair.

Does the swing lean BACK any more? If not, I used to use a little belt that came with some other support device and wrap it around baby and swing to help support him. He can't sit himself, so he leans over from the motion of the swing.

Dear R.,
I don't have any experience with this particular swing, however, my daughter was really tiny. I had to roll up blankets to put padding around her to keep her from flopping to one side or the other in her swing (and even her car seat although she was strapped in).
I hope reclining the swing seat works, but you might need to try a little padding too. Good luck!

Definitely recline it more! But my son loved to sit crooked in it and still does in any seat that will let him. When he did this the swing would swing to the right and the back to middle. I don't think it hurt the swing except maybe used up the batteries faster (just a theory). Also maybe stuff a fluffy blanket so he doesn't lean forward as much.

LOL that is too funny because my little one has been doing the same thing. She is 5 months now and I think she leans forward because she is trying to sit up. She absolutely loves the swing though, both ways. I found that if I attach the toy tray she is fine. Also I always turn on the mobile above so she leans back and watches it spin.
