Baby Swings....did You Love Yours?

I did not like my swing or find it needed after 3 months ... once my son could support himself he loved the exorsaucer (sp?) and the bouncy that stood in the door frame for when I showered and cooked etc. I think the swing was best used for the first 3-5 months as just another place to put them when you can not hold them. What I DID like about the swing we got (do not remember the brand or name) it rocked in 4 directions (north, south, east, west) so my son could have options directionally and I did like that.

cradle swing all the way! Any brand, any design....as long as it swings front/back....or side to side!

We had to buy a new swing and bouncer with our 2nd DD (now 4 months old) and did some research on ratings this time because we didn't with the first one and both ended up breaking. We decided to go with the Fisher Price Zen collection (a little pricy but we got them a little cheaper on Amazon). Some of the reviews are confusing because it makes you think it's hard to put together but my husband didn't have any problems at all. My DD wouldn't sleep in her crib but she would sleep in her swing (about 3 months). She loved it (and still does). It has very soothing music and I like that it has a built in cover up. Another big plus and the main reason we chose it was that it plugs in so you don't have to use batteries.

I too am expecting baby number three...almost 6 years after my second was born!!! Needless to say I have been asking the same question.

I have been given mixed reviews on EVERY swing out there. One thing I have taken away is that the newer swings that swing side to side are NOT always a hit with babies. You either love it or you hate it. My cousin bought a new swing because the one she recieved at her shower just wasn't a good fit for her daughter. She hated it.

My friends are throwing me a small shower so I tried my best to keep registry items to a reasonable price figuring that people can go in together on something pricier like a swing.

Given all of the mixed reviews I have recieved both in person and online here is the swing I ended up choosing.

I am not due until May so unfortunately I can not give you a thumbs up or down yet but I chose this one because it can swing side to side AND back and forth. This way my bases are covered when it comes time for our little guy to swing in it :o)

EDITED: Also, this swing has a plug in option which is awesome because these things eat batteries like crazy. It also folds easily if you need to get it out of the way. There is a short video on the link I posted.

I had 2 boys 19 yrs apart. they both had swings. I had a crank with my oldest and a battery with my youngest and I by far like the old time crank better. dont know if you can find them anymore. but if you can nab it I loved them

We tried several with our youngest, and the one we kept was a Fisher Price Cradle Swing. It swings side to side as well as front to back, so I feel like it's easier on a newborn's neck. The one we got also had little star lights that she loves to watch even when the swing is turned off. We got it at Walmart (site-to-store) for about $125.

We loved the Fisher Price Rainforest swing. And it plugs in, so no batteries are needed (although you could use them, if you don't have an available plug).

My son LOVED his swing. We had the Fisher Price Lamb swing, I have at least two other friends with babies that also LOVE this swing.

We stopped using it when he was attacking the mobile part while he was swinging. Probably around 6 months.

I had a Fisher Price Swing n Glide, it did both swinging and gliding motion. It was a great swing. I also had a Boppy Rock n Comfort travel swing which was great too. For my first, I loved both and used them constantly...to the point of fault because after a while she would ONLY nap in her swing! But by 4 months she got too big for it and we were done with it. My second baby HATED the swing, we didn't use it at all and ended up selling it recently. So, I guess it just depends, your baby may or may not like the swing no matter what the brand. And in any case, it's only used for a few months at most. I would suggest buying a used one from Craigslist or somewhere, they are expensive to buy new when only used a little while.

For complaints about going through batteries....if you invest in rechargeable batteries you wont have that problem. =)

I had a full sized graco swing. It had decent reviews but my son HATED being in the swing. He screamed all the time. I also thought it was hard to get him in and out of. I was always scared the plastic part in the middle would pinch his wiggly little leg when I put down the tray in front, and the mobile seemed to be at a funny angle. I dont remember what kind it was, but it looks like the graco sillouette swing. For the money, I would not recommend it. it wasnt the swings fault my son hated it, but it was hard to get him in and out of.
I bought a portable fisherprice aquarium swing and he loved it. It was much easier to get him in and out of and took up less space. It had a kind of bucket seat which was just easier. I paid $15 for it at a consignment sale.

I loved the swing with my first, with my second not-so much. They were both graco. Ive seen the bouncers, oscillators that also swing,, i love space savers
