I am expecting and would like to register. I am not having a shower nor do I expect any one to purchase items for me, BUT whatever isn't purchased off of my registry I will get a 20% off coupon for. I love coupons and would love to get 20% off of my new monitor. Does Target and Babies R Us still send those coupons?
They do usually give you a discount (not sure if it's 10 or 20%) off anything unpurchased from your registry. BRU is also offering a gift card (again, I forget if it's for $10 or $20) when you create a registry with them.

Sign up on line at Buy Buy Baby. They send lots of coupons. Same for Babies R Us. Watch the sales at Target. registry is a good way to keep track of what you buy. You can start one at Target too. Congratulations.
Diapers.com is my favorite site. Free shipping and awesome sales. I got 30% off my Britax car seat. That was a big chuck of change. I will need to get a double stroller this winter, so I will watch for the sales and get it from there. Free one day shipping. Get all my diapers from them and for all baby food when I needed it. Very customer friendly too. Beats going to store and hauling boxes of diapers and wipes etc.
We used the baby registry as a way of keeping track of what we'd bought as well as a way of keeping track of specific items we wanted to pick up after looking in to our various choices. We were also getting asked a lot if we were registered so it was a good thing to have :)
I don't know if they still offer the coupons or not since my youngest is now almost 4.5 years old. But it did get us on all sorts of mailing list for coupons, some of which we still get.
BRU still has the exclusions on their coupons. So if the monitor is usually excluded from regular sales it will be excluded from the registry coupon. I registered at Target in 2008 and I don't remember getting any additional coupons. BRU usually puts their monitors on sale, check their website. You can usually download the coupons directly from their site.
Oh yeah. Register at Target, Babies R Us, and Buy Buy Baby. I am always getting 20% off coupons in the mail and e-mail from BRU and BBB. You don't have to wait for your registry to expire to use those coupons. Registering at Target is great, because they send all kinds of baby item coupons to you in the mail that most people don't get.
Even if you don't have a shower, it is good to have a registry because people still want to give you gifts and like to know what you might need. Good luck!
