Ok so I just moved to a new home where there are neighbors about 30 feet away and a lot of florescent lighting. . . I'm currently using a safety first monitor that was cheap at walmart, but I'm needing one that can be around my bad lighting and not have such horrible interference. I don't have a lot of money to spend so it's hard to get a nice one. Does anyone have some good suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So I went and exchanged it and got a vtech crystal clear (I think is the name) and I love it. For those of you who told me just to check on him every half and hour, I would but I'm in an older and very noisy home so when I'm upstairs and washing his bottles or making dinner I CANT hear him. Please don't make me feel like I'm being a bad parent for relying on a monitor to hear him while I do things for my son. I do go and check on him, but he is a very light sleeper so if I keep opening the door he will wake up. So I try to only do it when he is making noise. If he has gone for a while with out making noise or I can't hear him breath I will immediately go and check on him. The parent unit is practically plastered to my ear to make sure I can hear him him. Please acknowledge that other people live in different types of houses then yours. I'm sure that you meant what you said as a tip and not anything hurtful, but it hurt anyway.

I just want to caution you all on those baby monitors......We had one and so did one of our neighbors. They all work on the same frequency and some on the same as cell phones. We were able to hear the entire conversation going on in our neighbors house!! I think it is kinda funny because parents rely on them so much that they forget that just going every half hour or so to check on your little one is just as good!! You don't need technology to care for your sleeping child!

Safety First ones SUCK! At least, that's been my experience. I was on the phone with customer service for like an hour, and the girl told me all sorts of things to do, and all the stupid thing did was buzz. So I gave it to my friend to try out, and even though she only lives 4 doors down, she said it works fine. I don't get it.

Anyway, after having poor luck with 3 monitors, I learned that I don't need a baby monitor at all. Try not having one for a while and see how it goes. We have a fairly big 2 story house, and it turns out I can hear the baby just fine.

I am not too sure about the lighting and all but I do live in a trailer. I don't know if that affects your monitor at all but the ones I have from Fisher Price are awesome. I don't really have much interference. I don't think they are too expensive. So I hope at least that helped.

I had the same problem unless they were plugged directly into a wall outlet ie no extension cords lol

Buy a digital one. I found mine at Walmart for fairly cheap. Go digital all the way. Love this one TONS better than the last one I had!!
