Baby- MD Check Up

They didn't see my baby from 6-12 mos. unless she was ill. As long as she's caught up on her vaccinations, she should be ok.

All well baby visits are is a chance to pump the child full of vaccines. I have three children and never did the well baby visits. The only time I have taken them to a doctor is when they are sick. No need to take your baby in every couple of months unless something is wrong.

My son's schedule was 6 months and then 12 months. My brother's daughter sees a different pediatrician and was told they needed to come in at 9 months so I guess it varies by pediatrician. It's not extremely necessary IMO and I would just go by what your doctor prefers. I know for my niece all they did was weigh her, record height, and asked about milestones and looked at ears, eyes, head like the other visits.

And well baby visits are important even if you're not going to give vaccinations. They can detect certain problems with the eyes and their hearing without you noticing there is a problem.

It may vary depending on insurance. Call your insurance carrier. If they don't pay, you will. I think you can check the AAP web site for recommended well baby visits.

Mine did have a 9 month checkup. Maybe it's different depending on your pediatrician. It doesn't hurt to call the office and ask why a 9 month checkup is not necessary if you are worried.

My baby boy will be 9 months at the end of November and he does have a 9 month check-up scheduled with his pediatrician. You might want to call the office and ask if you should have scheduled a 9 month check-up. If they say "no", you could ask to get an appointment. Not having a doctor's visit for 6 months in the baby's first years seems too long to me. Babies change so much each month that you want to make sure there development is on track. My doctor gave me the choice to go in at 9 months, or skip to a year. I chose to go in at a year, since I don't have insurance, and my son was doing fine. We did actually go in for a sick visit right around 9 months, so I'm very glad I didn't end up going twice and paying twice.

You don't really need to go to the doctor if your child is developing fine, it isn't required, although I have heard that some doctors will drop you after a couple of years or a certain time if you don't go, but 6 months is fine, especially at that time.

My daughter just had her 9 month check up and they did the heel prick to check her iron (no vaccines). If your insurance covers well visits then this one should be covered.

There are no vaccinations at 9 months (unless you missed any at previous appts or need to get the flu shot), so that's why the 9 mos appt is often skipped.
