My mom just gave me my baby book and I was sooo excited to see it. My son just turned one and I am big into keeping record of these sweetest moments. Well as Im looking through it. I came to a big disapointment. My baby foot prints (in ink) had disappeared. I have also done this for my son. What can I do to preserve the prints in his book? PLEASE HELP! I want to add I have googled it and no luck.

Wow !! Thanks for all the advice ladies. I am going to the scrap book store tomorrow! Some of you girls sound like you have been doing this for a while. I also plan on scanning that page in his book. Good idea!!

My oldest will be 15 in Nov and I remember when doing his baby book all those years ago! that after one time closing the book the prints were rubbing off onto the facing page. Being a VERY young mom at the time on a budget I couldn't afford special "stuff" I simply covered that page with kitchen plastic wrap. It has worked great, and I have since done the same with my other kids books. There prints all still look great. Good luck.
Make a copy of the page, even better, scan it and save it to a disk.

i took mine out and laminated it....
i had a nurse that told me to sprikle baby powder on the footprints and then put in a paper towel to keep it fresh...my baby's are still there.....he's almost 14months now! :) Her daughter is nearly 7 and her's are still fresh!
Someone told me hairspray...aerosol kind or shellac spray you get in the paint dept. . I have not idea how to spell shellic, shillac, whatever. Sorry!

As for your being lonely as a new stay at home mom, I've been there. The key is to force yourself to get out and make friends. I found a great resource in the "Mommy & Me" type classes offered through the local rec. center. These are also called Parenting classes i.e. Parenting the Toddler. Typically everyone has children the same age, usually there's discussions, crafts, play activities. I know Plano has some & there might be some other local classes, usually in the Adult Education catalogs that come every season.
When I was a new Mom, none of my other friends had had children yet. I had no idea what was out there until a neighbor mentioned the adult ed programs. I had always received the catalogs, but figured I didn't have time for art or exercise classes. I never knew there was anything like this available. I signed up and I would take my son once a week. Pretty soon I got to know a group of other mom's with kids the same age & we would continue our relationships outside of class with lunch out after class, trips to the mall (to ride the carousel), playdates, etc. Eventually I established a network of friends and a wonderful support group.

Use archival safe, permanent ink. You may have to clean his skin with the special clearner,but it would be worth it for you I would think. You can find the ink at scrap-booking stores. I would also try Michaels or JoAnnes. The salesclerks might not be able to help you with it thought. An independent dealer or shop owner would be able to. Also, a stamping store would know also.
There is a stamping store in Ft. Worth off of Granbury Rd and I-20, Imprints at ###-###-####. There is also a Scrapbooking store in Burleson (can't remember the name) and Mineral Wells. Cat Creations in Mineral Wells would have you fixed up in a jiffy at ###-###-####. There is also Nana's Scrapbooking store in Mineral Wells but I don't have the number. Also, any Close to My Heart scrapbooking representative could also help. I am one, but probably not close to you to be able to have a hands on demonstration of ink and technique. You can log onto the corporate website at www.closetomyheart.com and find the consultant locator that will give you the names and numbers of people closest to you.

To avoid this in the future, use a pigment based ink pad as opposed to a dye based ink pad. Be careful because they take a little longer to dry. Joann's or Michaels has an archival spray that keeps newspapers from turning yellow, it may also help with fading. It's just called Archival Spray or Mist.
I have impressions of my kiddos feet/ hand in clay from 1 mo. 3 mo. 6 mo. and 1 year---they are my most precious things--- of course besides my actual kiddos-- try it out...
Is there enough left on yours that you could photocopy (or scan) it and put the copy back in the book? FYI: Sonogram pictures disappear also. Not sure what you can do to preserve the originals. So sorry you lost the real ones ... baby feet are too cute!
lamenating them will help to preserve them longer...also keep in cool dry areas...
ultimately when things are copied onto regular paper you cannot keep it forever...using acid free paper when you can is the way to preserve memories
I scanned my in to the computer. This also allowed me to create a t-shirt (via iron on) for my baby's daddy for Fathers Day with her foot prints.
A photocopy would last longer.
what about using those clear varnish sprays that you would normally use over decorative stenciling or painting on wood pieces? When used on wood it is suppose to preserve and protect the paint maybe it would do the same for the foot prints. look for it in the craft section of stores.
I would test in on another piece of paper first though.
hairspray. it'll keep it from smearing and fading.
I put clear tape over my sons it is working great so far.it just makes it look laminated.
try getting it into a acid free sleeve because that should save it from fading. lin
We found that the ink the hospital used was rubbing off, so we put clear box tape over it. It seems to be working.
