Baby Food at 14 Months?

My son loves breakfast food and will eat any kind of fruit. He also will eat grilled cheese, but when it comes to eating any other food, he refuses. He wont eat macaroni and cheese, or pizza or chicken nuggets! He eats baby food (stage 3 dinners and veggies) for lunch everyday and grilled cheese for dinner. I know he is getting something from each food group, but I am baffled at this point.
Any ideas moms?

My son has also been somewhat picky. he's 27 months now, and I can see he is willing to try some new things. He also will not eat mac & cheese, and until recently he wouldn't touch chicken nuggets. He started daycare at 21 months, and he sees other kids eat and he'll try it, so for me if I want to introduce new foods I send it to school. His breakfast consists of toast with butter and jelly, french toast sticks, and grits. he basically eats the same for lunch and dinner. He'll eat rice almost every day with either beef or chicken. He'll also eat spagetti, with no meat. He'll eat fine as long as it falls within those foods. He also loves fruits, but not veggies. I hide the veggies so he doesn't realize he's eating it. I think keep introducing some new things even if he doesn't eat it. He'll eventually turn around.

As the mom of some very picky eaters, I can honestly say that each child is different, and yours sounds like he is stuck in a little bit of a rut. My 15 month old eats pretty much the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day, then eats whatever we are eating for dinner. My 3 year old eats only granola cereal for breakfast, a chicken patty for lunch, and a piece of American Cheese for dinner. On the rare occasion that we make something she likes for dinner, she will stray from the cheese (tacos, pepperoni stromboli), but I have spent a great deal of energy worrying about her eating.

I can't say that I have any ideas, except to say that he sounds healthy and I'm sure he will outgrow it. What does he do when you put something different in front of him? My 3 year old actually yells at me and pushes it away or even pushes it off the table. There is a big difference in what to expect from a 3 year old versus your little 14 month old. Try not to worry, but if you are worrying, you can request bloodwork to assure you that there are no nutrition related health concerns, and of course you could give him a good multivitamin to fill in the nutritional gaps. My 3 year old won't even take the vitamin, but the 15 month old does.

I feel like I haven't offered you much of anything useful. I guess all that was to say that I understand what you are dealing with, it can be exasperating, but it is a hard thing to battle since the child is really in control of what they eat. Keep offering him choices and eventually he will come around (I think!).

Hey, some moms would love to hear that....no "junk". LOL
Hide all the good stuff! In a blender or food proccesor, puree veggies, put the mix into your hamburger meat and make little meatballs or hamburgers. He will be getting the good stuff without knowing it and eating little meatballs and fun shaped hamburgers. Make them fun. With a cookie cutter, make them into shapes before you grill or fry.
Try some mashed potatos, make a snowman laying flat on the plate or curly fries, or get whole potatos and cut them into shapes as well. Cut the potato cross wise so you have circles, make them into shapes with cookie cutters and deep fry or bake. Remember, it has to be associated with fun or they will not touch it. Later when he gets older, he can help you make his food and it will give him a sense of accomplishment as well as fun. Good Luck!

my daughter was good until recently with most things. suddenly, she was spitting out meat and veggies she's eaten before. and sometimes she'll eat it one night and the next time, she'll spit it out. common from what i've read. i have resorted to "pasta medleys". i make either alphabet or pastina and chop up the meat and veggie selection of my choice, put just enough sauce-alfredo, cheese, tomato to make it stick to her spoon-and she can't get enough! but even then, i tried a new mix last night, which she spit out. tonight, same dish, she couldnt' get enough.
