Baby Carrier for 12 Month Old

Look for a carrier called an Ergo (do a google search). They are kind of expensive, but totally worth it. They have amazing back support and can be worn on the front, back or hip. They are ideal for babies 6 months and up and can handle a lot of weight. I can carry my 30 lb toddler comfortably for 1-2 hours with no major problems. Also, it is totally lightweight and great for just throwing in the car or a suitcase.

Mmmmm... my favorite topic! I carry DS in carriers frequently. When he was younger, it was a lot more, but since he's quite the independent toddler these days I don't wear him as much.

Anyway - a carrier that is often good for older babies is the Ergo. I love mine - and still use it as my workhorse carrier for my 29 lb kiddo. It's not particularly great for a newborn though.

If you're wanting something that can work from infancy through the toddler years, check out a mei tai. Some brands are Kozy or Babyhawk. Personally I own a Hapai baby carrier, and it is super easy to use - and good from infancy through toddler years though it's not as comfy for me anymore as the Ergo is.

For ease of use, I would recommend an Ergo or other structured soft carrier (Beco, Yamo - if you are looking for something pretty, one of these other ones, the ergo is functional and "sporty").

The ergo does have the option of a baby insert, but I never used it with a small baby.

I have a Hotsling and love it. I had other slings and never used them. I specifically got this one because it can hold up to 35 pounds so I can carry my 2 year old or my newborn. They seem a bit expensive though so I got mine from E-bay.

Get a baby mai tai. They are awesome another mom from mamasource made one for me before I went to florida my 4 year old was in and so was my niece who is 4. Also my friend used it for her preemie. You can find them on ebay.

Stop in at Peapods in St. Paul (snelling Ave. and St. Clair). You can bring your daughter and try on a lot of brands to find what works for you and her.

Have you tried a sling? They are usually pretty versatile for both infants and older babies.

I still carry my 2 1/2 year old son in his ring sling. I bought it online from a lady but her site isn't up anymore. She (and many others) sell their slings on etsy.com. If you type in ring sling or mai tei you will find tons!!

Look at www.mamtoto.org. There's lots of info about baby slings. It tells you how to comfortable "wear" your baby AND toddler. It even tells you how you can make one if you are handy. The long wraps seem to be really comfortable as they displace the weight of the baby better. I have a bad back and I had a really good carrier that I used with my first daughter but it still hurt me, so I made a long wrap. I have several friends with similar situations that swear by the long wraps. I am due with our second baby in 2 weeks and am really excited to try out the one I made. While I have been pregnant, I tried my new wrap I made with my 3 1/2 year old and it was pretty amazing. I was 7 months pregnant and was suprised at how comfortably I could carry 35 pounds on my back. Take a look! Good luck!

Hi, I have a Mei Tai Ellaroo hip wrap and it works okay but noticed that I have strain. Maybe it's on wrong. I really liked this one I purchased form a lady on e-bay. It's just like the Mai Tai but it was made from this breathable fabric. If you use e-bay I can try to locate it for you and send you the link. Just let me know.

An Ergo, mei tei, or a pocket sling would be your best bet. I've never used an ergo, but I've used a mei tei for my boys and they are wonderful! SO versatile, and same with a pocket sling. Target sells Hotslings, thats what I have, and its simple to use, small so you can stick it in your purse, and again very versatile. Both my boys around a year liked back carry the best with both the sling and mei tei.
