Baby Acne Treatment for My Almost 7 Week Old

I am thinking that my almost 7 week old son has a terrible case of baby acne. Does anyone know of anything I can do to clear up his skin? I hate seeing his face like this. FYI, I am exclusively breastfeeding currently. Could it be something that I am eating or not eating?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all of the input. I have deceided to just wait it out. My other 2 kids did not have "acne" at all when they were babies so my husband and I were alarmed. We have a well visit soon and will mention it to the pediatrician as well.

Agree with all of the posts! Just let it be. I exclusively breastfed my babes and they also had baby acne right around the 6 -7 week mark. It will be gone soon. Just let it be and don't let any well-meaning relatives talk you into anything to "treat" it! :) Awesome that you are exclusively breastfeeding too!! Way to go!

No medication, I would just let it clear up on it's own. I know it looks horrible, but it is nothing to worry about.

Never try to "treat" baby acne. It's hormonal & will clear up soon enough on it's own!

It's normal! Just keep it clean, maybe wipe some of your breastmilk on it, and give it time.

I am under the impression it is your hormones coming out in the baby. I have heard that many times. Not sure how true though. It does not last long. I would not put anything on it, that is just me though.

There is nothing to do about baby acne. It's totally normal.
Little kids live inside us until they are born and then exposed to air. Their skin starts "breathing" and there are things in their little bodies that come out through their skin.
(That's how my pediatrician explained it more or less).
It clears up on it's own. Keep the baby's face clean but don't use anything harsh or drying. This really will clear up. My daughter didn't have it at all but my son did and he has a perfect complexion. (So far and he's 15).
If it's still there at his next well baby check, ask the doctor, but unless it's scaley or peeling or something, it should go away on it's own.

Best wishes and congratulations on your new baby!

My daughter had what looked like acne all over her face & neck at that age (she is 3 months now). A nurse friend told me to use Aquaphor on it, and it helped a lot. It wasn't really acne, she was having a mild allergic reaction to the perfume of someone who was holding her. I started coating her face & neck with Aquaphor after every bath, and after about a week there was no trace of it. Good luck!

it's normal - it's not anything you are or are not eating. His hormones are stabilizing. Don't worry - it'll clear up in the next few weeks.

My daughter is 14 weeks and it just went away 2 weeks ago. Hers wasn't horrible but definitely there. My dr told me to just wipe face daily with clean cloth but nothing else. Good luck and congratulations!

My youngest also had a terrible case of baby acne that went from her forehead to her chest. Since I would not treat with any lotions or creams, I did some reseach and found suggestions on natural remedies. Express a little breastmilk and rub it on his face twice daily. It dried up the acne on my little one's face within TWO days...it was like a miracle. She did have little patches of acne that flared up again for several weeks, but I just rubbed a few drops on to the area and it again dried up quickly. Good luck.

Definitely leave it alone. You could try putting aquaphor on it tohelp protect it. Baby acne comes from your hormones. He had all of your hormones circulating through his body while you were pregnant and now his little body is adjusting as your hormones fade out of his system. The acne should resolve on its own by 4 months or so. Don't worry, my 2nd DS was so gorgeous but had a terrible case of this. I just looked past it at his baby blue eyes, long eye lashes and curly head of hair and didn't let it bother me! :-)

I know its hard to like at it, but the nurses at the hospital told my daughter after the birth of her baby, not to do anything. It will go away on its own. It probably took almost 8-9 weeks and baby is 12 weeks. So don't worry....

don't do anything! Let it clear up on its own! You will do more harm than good slathering junk on his face! My oldest had baby acne too and it was gone by 4mos old.

no this is a normal process, both my boys had it. you can't do anything about it. the doctor told me acne comes from the hormones that the baby had in utero, being expelled through their body and thus acne forms. i felt the same way about wanting it to clear up, but only time will make it go away completely. i was breastfeeding exclusively too, it has nothing to do with what you eat.
