I have a son with Autism as well, it gets better:) I don't live in your specific area but here are some places to try and find support:

Facebook- do a search of Autism and Georgia. I guarantee there will be a group.

MeetUp-Check the MeetUp website to see if there are any support groups in your area for families of Autism.

Generation Rescue (.org)-This is the best place to start with a new diagnosis. You can apply for a grant through them to help pay for medical expenses. Also, you'll be able to find a "Rescue Angel" in your area that you can contact who will help you navigate the biomedical intervention side of Autism. A rescue angel is another parent who has successfully recovered their child and is full of an amazing wealth of knowledge. They can also turn you to other groups in your specific area that you may have not known existed.

You have a long road ahead of you but my child is now 8 and he is in a typical clasroom for 80% of his day with no aid. It's a fight till the end but hang in there and take it one day at a time as I promise, it gets better:)

Definitely talk to your therapists also being that he is 2 is he involved in the early intervention program in your area? They have tons of resources for you. Look into your local ARC chapter, check out sites such as meetup.com, and autism speaks for other possible resources local to you. I don't have a lot of time at the moment, but I just wanted to clarify for you that ASD = Autism Spectrum Disorder and is just shorthand for saying Autism. I have an ASD daughter.

Take it slowly. Take time to educate yourself, but you don't have to learn it all now, immediately. Remember that your son is still the same child he has always been. The diagnosis simply means you have a name for the grouping of behaviors that are a concern, and that you will be able to get him help for those behaviors so that he can learn coping mechanisms, life skills, and self advocate. It's a starting point.

Ask your primary care doctor for a therapist to see for regular counseling. It will be invaluable for you. You're going to need to vent and advice for coping for yourself. Raising a special needs child is difficult, but it's also h*** o* marriages. Therapy can help immensely if you're aware of this early on and seek help before there's a problem. Also ask if they know of any local support groups for parents of children with Autism.
