Are You a Girly Girl or a Tomboy?

I am a tomboy through and through. I don't care for dresses, heels, but I do like makeup. I'll do it if the occasion calls for it, but I'd prefer not to. My daughter on the other hand is a girly girl. My friend brought it to my attention that all my daughter has to wear is jeans and shirts. It never occurred to me to buy dresses and skirts. I didn't mean it, I just never thought of it! It was kind of like, 'Oh, you like wearing those? Meh, all right. Let's go to the mall.'

My hobbies are running, gardening and building/remodeling things.

Are you a girly girl or a tomboy? What are your hobbies?

edit: It seems like us tomboys have something in common, and that is doing things outside and that are somewhat physical in nature.

What can I do next?

Mostly a girlie girl - Make Up YES PLEASE, Hair styles AMEN!, nail polish - changes every 3 days!, Clothes - I dress for the occasion and sometimes overdress (just because), but here is my "boy thing" I LOVE video games - I play them daily, talk about them with other gamers and read about them like a 13yr old boy!

just a girl... I'm right in the middle... I don't have to wear a dress, but I like to every once in awhile. I can leave the house with no makeup on and it doesn't bother me. I was in sports growing up, loved the outdoors, but was just as happy to sew. Now, my daughter used to be a girly girl when she was younger. When she hit late elementary schools, she stopped wearing dresses, now she's 16 and wearing them again.

I'm both :)
I hunt, fish, camp, love to play softball and basketball, 4-wheel in the mud, majority of tv I watch are sports and I wear baseball caps on the weekend (when I don't have to do my hair for church, date night, etc).

I also love my manicures/pedicures, wear make-up, curl my hair and have more shoes/heels than I need! I am fairly up to date with fashion (though I shop sales/refuse to pay full price for stuff) and I enjoy getting to dress up occasionally. And PINK is my favorite color!

I'm sort of both, I guess.

I love wearing dresses, but hardly every do, and I wear skirts to work as often as pants. I love getting my hair done up in a "do" and wearing simple jewelry.

However, I have no problem hiking & getting muddy on a hike, or grubbing in (my pathetic attempts at) a garden. Shoveling horse manure or throwing hay is no big deal. And I love wrestling with our dogs.

But I do agree--I'm a nature girl. I'm happiest when I get some outside, preferably alone, time every day, and love hiking & walks in the woods.

I look very feminine, i do my hair pkuck my brows, wax, paint my nails and toes...i don't own ugly underwear or bras I even wear makeup to the gym! But my attitude is very much like a guy. I lost my mom young and I was the only girl in a house full of boys. It stuck.

I'm a femme tomboy... more Lara Croft, less Everything you can do backwards and in heels in that particular spectrum.

The Girls let me get away with a lot. Giant breasts let one get away with a lot as far as clothes go (of course, finding clothes are kinda difficult, but DDDDs in a boys shirt make it look like not a boy's shirt, but I do shop a lot in the teen boy section ;). Clothes are mostly camisoles and jeans, or shorts under skirts. Converse or havaianas. I love heels, but I haven't dated a man taller than me (6'1) in a looooooooong time. (Married 11 years, and it was a couple years before that).

I prefer masculine living spaces. LOL think 'decorator masculine' and not 'cinderblock masculine'. Club chairs, books, dark woods, billiard table, clean lines, crisp whites, brushed chrome/stainless steel.

My makeup is my warpaint... and it's all waterproof.
My hair runs the gamut from waist length to pixie short.

As a kid I was an athlete.
As an adult I try to be.
My first "real" job was as a US Marine.

Hobbies are
- 2 kinds of shooting (weapons and cameras)
- Gymnastics
- Martial arts
- Snowboarding
- Surfing (when I'm near an appropriate water source, Seattle doesn't count)
- Dancing
- Traveling
- Reading / Writing
- Feeding the Elephant's Child

So funny, my 8 year old daughter and I were just talking about this!

I was a total, 100% tomboy growing up. As I matured, I learned to stop fighting my big boobs and embrace them, LOL!!

I can out fish most men, fix a flat tire, wear jeans and a t-shirt religiously... but I do looooove a hot pair of 5 inch heels ;)

I'm both! I grew up with 5 brothers and my sister and I are 8 years apart. I like to do both tomboyish things and girly things.

I like to play a few sports if I have the energy, camp, fish, shoot guns here and there, be outdoors as much as possible, and play in the mud. I have a son so we are doing that more and more :) Not afraid of getting dirty!

But I also love getting dressed up and doing my hair nice. Love getting pedicures, and mani's (If and when I can afford it) and looking nice, and wearing pink cause it matches my rosy cheeks. All that girly stuff!

Like to think I'm a nice mix :)

I am a Tomboy.

I have always had my quirks that make me girly.

When I was growing up I was boy all the way, unless I wanted to wear the dress named ''Dress of my dreams''....It was pink. Layered and frilly to the max. I only wore it on VERY special occasions. Like everyone knew it was special so when they saw it on me...They knew I was doing something amazing:)...In third grade I wore it when I won an award for a piece of Poetry I turned into to a national contest! I have a picture of me in it kissing my dad on the cheek the night I was presented with it......It was the last time I actually wore it too:)

Then there was the fact I was a Ballerina. I wore tights....skirts...all the girly stuff while I was in classes....So when I was off from dancing I stayed as far away from girly stuff....I was ''Goth'' or ''Rocker'' outside the Studio. In fact when people heard I was a Ballerina they questioned my truthfulness:) Until they saw my room full of leo's, pointe shoes and tu-tu's.

Still to this day I am not very girly. In fact the most vein thing I do is my hair. I dye it and then it gets a wash and condition once a week......And then I will blow it dry. Yep...That is as girly as it gets here.

I do not wear makeup. Or girly perfume........And dresses and skirts are worn only in the summer as a means to stay cool. And normally are some form of hippie bohemian attire. Again only in the summer.

I am just more comfy as a tomboy. I am actually happy I had all boys instead of girls for this reason:)

My hobbies are.....Anything outside. Gardening, walks....lazying in the sun.....I love camping....being by the river...and anything that makes me feel one with life.......and yes still Ballet.

My passion is Art, my new collection especially.....I am working on something right now that will mark my time working within the Occupy movement........My muse is Time's Person of the Year for 2011...the Protester.

I love being me....The Tomboy with a little flare when she needs it:)

I have boy that is a tom girl...or whatever a girly boy would be.....I can not wait until he has his first girl friend and he can finally be relieved all the teasing he got for being so feminine pays off...Because he is going to make the worlds best boyfriend/husband I am convinced...because he is so sensitive and caring....:) Makes me proud I did not try and change him at all and let him embrace it:)

Sister Tom Girl here, too! (Talk about an oxymoron). I do, however, like my occasional manis/pedis and the opportunity to dress up but it's not a necessity or the essence of my being.

For now, my DD, too boasts jeans/stretchy pants, etc. Since she is almost 2, I await with baited breath whether she will become a girly girl/tom girl or somewhat in the middle.

I suspect a girly girl since mommy is a tom girl!

Activities: Love running/hiking/biking swimming!

I'm a girly girl when I need/want to be in terms that I can throw on a dress and be an upper-crust society woman. However, when it comes right down to it I am a tomboy who happens to wear makeup occasionally. I own two dresses and one still has the tags on it.

My hobbies are nerdy in that my head is always in a book, I'm often doing research about something or another. I love to exercise but only in the confinement of my apt - this is due to health reasons. I dress as girlie and as manly as I feel that day.

I honestly don't understand the glitz and glamor of what it means to be a girlie-girl and luckily my daughter has outgrown that phase for now. I told her once she's a teen and comes to me for advice she's SOL. I can teach her how to throw a baseball, or write a five page essay or poetry but I cannot teach her how to do her hair, makeup or what is fashionable.

I'm both, I think.
I love painting my nails, always do my hair and makeup and really like fashion.

I also enjoy getting good and dirty, was a pretty good athlete, and love outdoorsy stuff.

As a kid - straight tomboy, though! Building forts, playing Matchbox cars, shooting things with beebe (sp?) guns, etc... that was my thing!

I consider myself a tomboy but I have no problem with looking good when I am not in the garden or destroying some part of the house.

I don't do foo foo which is my idea of a girly girl but I own plenty of heals, dresses, suits and makeup.

My hobbies are both outdoors and indoors and I am really too lazy to type them all at the moment. :)

Heck I took down half of a 40 ft Bradford pear in full makeup because I didn't have time to deal with it after work and the tree needed to come down. My friend called me chainsaw Barbie for weeks.

Really to me being a tomboy is about being comfortable in your skin, not what you wear.

I'm probably a girly girl with a tomboy attitude :)
I like dressing up, I LOVE wearing heels, though I hardly ever do. I wear light makeup, get my hair highlighted twice a year and I love a good mani pedi.
But I don't get hung up on any of that stuff. I don't NEED makeup on when I leave the house, and I'm not afraid to get dirty. I'm also not afraid to get the tools out when needed.
I like hiking, gardening, photography, cooking, home decorating, reading, music/concerts/dancing, movies, flea/antique shopping and traveling.

I was a serious tomboy growing up: I'm talking a tree climbing, snake and crawdad loving, tackle football playing tomboy. And truthfully, I scoffed at girly girls. When I was a teenager, I secretly enjoyed occasional excuses to dress up, but I didn't really embrace that until after I was married with kids. Now I enjoy both tomboy and girly girl stuff, but I really wish I had figured out more girl skills when my peers were learning them because when you're in your 20's and just figuring out basic makeup application, yikes! Or, something that still can be a problem, coordinating outfits or knowing if something looks good or if it looks grandmotherly.

I don't know if this counts as a hobby exactly, but I love working with the cub scouts. Their crafts don't involve ribbons.
