Anyother Moms Using Enfamil A.R. Lipil

I now some of you will say that brestfeeding is best, BUT she is adopted and was started on formual and I am ok with that. We have been having formula issues for a few weeks now. 1st we were on Similac Advance in the Blue Can, after much gas and spitting up we tried the Similac Advance Soy in the Pink Can. The Soy formula did not work with the spitting up or gas, it was also really stinky and gross. This Tuesday our pediatrician switched us to Enfamil A.R. Lipil. It seems to be helping, BUT because the formula is thickened with a rice startch it's consistency is slighly thicker therefore harder to suck out of the bottle. We don't want to over dillute it. So any other mom's use this brand and have any tricks. I don't want to resort to using a medicine dropper to help her, but it's hard to watch her struggle to get the formula out. I know the nipples on the bottle are fine. They have three holes and are not torn.

What can I do next?

I am giving my daughter the same formula. I use the Parents choice bottles for anti cholic (Dr. Brown style). I had to take the nipples and make the hole a little bigger with a pairing knife. You have to be careful not to make it too big. You just need to put a little slice in it. My daughter was collapsing the nipples. I even tried to use the 3 stage nipples and they don't work as well with this formula. Best of luck and if you would like to contact me personally about it you can e-mail at ____@____.com

My daughter is 2 months old and is on A.R. (powder) and she hasn't had a problem. It is a little bit thicker but I haven't noticed it taking longer for her to eat. Maybe you should try making the formula in advanced in a blender so you know it is mixed up good and store in your refrigerator until needed. Just make enough for one day of feedings and warm up before you give it to her. :)

I had to put a little rice cereal in my daughters bottle at abput 7 weeks to prevent reflux so I took a knife and made a cut between 2 of the 3 holes and it was a lot better. She needed one time of feeding to get used to the extra flow but it was all the difference!! My daughter STILL gets gas and she is 3 1/2 months old. That won't go away until 6 mo's of age or so. That is due to a baby being overly hungry and then eating on an extremely empty stomach. (that happens to adults too) Try Gripe Water BEFORE feeding her a bottle and that will REALLY REALLY help with gas and possibly the spit up. (Although my daughter no longer takes Gripe Water because her gas doesn't bother her anymore and it has ALWAYS stunk bad!!) I know Kroger carries it, its homeopathic and is safe for even a newborn baby. Let us know what happens and good luck!! Just remember, she is only getting older!!

It does sound like the holes are too small to get the formula out. You can buy nipples for an older baby which have bigger holes, or ream them out with a fork tine as noted earlier.
Good luck and Congrats on your adoption!

We where having the same problem with are now soon to be 5 month old. I have two suggestions. One switch formula to the Gentalease by Enfamil. It helps with the gas big time. Are son would be really gassy and would spite up all the time. Once we switch it was like we had a new baby. He was a lot happier! Now he doesn't have a problem with gas nor does he spite up at all. Or you can take a fork and make the hole in the nipple a little bigger. We had to do that with that formula as well and it helped. He was able to get it out. But he still had a problem with the gas and spiting up. The we switched it to the Gentalease and it works great. Good luck!

I also used that with my kids once I stopped breastfeeding and we didn't have any problems with it being too thick but I know if you are using the Avent bottles they have different nipples and you might need to upgrade the nipple to a higher number which helps open up the flow. We did that and didn't have any problems. Best of luck.

L.,

Try the Y nipple, Dr Browns makes them. My oldest son had reflux really bad and the pediatrician told me to put formula in his bottle at night so he didn't spit up so much and wasn't it so much pain and we had to use the Y nipple to make it easier for it to come out. Its easier to find dr brown's stuff now than before, you can get it at target or babies r us has them for sure. Hope it helps and good luck!

Hi L.,

My son uses the Enfamil AR Lipil and what we do is shake it up in a cocktail shaker so that you can really shake it and dissolve the powder without worrying about some of the formula settling in the tip of the nipple and blocking it. Also, let it sit for the five minutes like directed on the label because that seems to help it settle. Hope it works.

I used the same formula, I had to open up the holes on the nipple. My son was very happy with the formula and nipples. I used a fork to open the holes a little bit.
