I have not personally tried Medifast but I work with a girl who was doing it and had no luck. She said she just spent a lot of $$ for nothing. I personally have been doing Weight Watchers and have had great success. I lost 20 lbs in about 8 weeks and am keeping it off.

I am new to Mamasource...so I sincerely hope that it is ok for me to respond. I'm with Isagenix - a cellular and fat burning gentle cleanse. There are four things that set us apart from EVERY other company on the market.

1) ONLY cellular cleanse in US
2) ONLY all organic
3) ONLY that is 100% water soluable
4) ONLY shake that has a transport system for enzymes (enzyme active-not heated)
My son lost over 63 lbs and I have lost over 20 in a short period of time and I feel fantastic!

While I have not specifically tried Medifast, I have tried other diet products similar with no results! You will lose the weight fast, but once you go off of it, it will all come back!
The best way to lose weight is to change your eating habits, eat healthier and don't eat before bed. Try and eat six small meals a day with lots of fruits and veggies. Another good way to lose weight and keep it off is to excersise! I know that is super hard with two small children, but getting them involved will help with the process! I reccommend buying a jogging stroller and getting your daughter a bike and having them join you on walks or jogs! My mom did that when I was yound and lost 75 pounds and has kept it off ever since! I gained 47 pounds with my son and have lost that plus 10 more pounds just by eating healthy and excersising! While it is so hard to diet and change your entire eating habits, the only way this will work is to make the conscious decision to do it! The weight won't come off overnight but you will have better results this way! Good luck and God bless!

I tried Medifast years ago. It did the job...I lost 40 pounds in about 3 or 4 months, but the side effects were too much for me to try again. The gas, bloating, diarrhea were too much to bear. The weight stayed off for a while, but when you go back to eating real food again, the weight comes back on. I, too, need to lose 80 pounds, but have IBS so diets like that don't set too well with me. There's really no fast fix. Good luck, and let me know if you finds something that works.

Hi A.,

No, I haven't tried Medifast but it's a diet and diets DON'T WORK!! I've tried a bunch of them. The thing that has worked is WeighDown Workshop. I've lost 65 lbs. PTL!! The reason diets don't work is because they don't change the underlying problem which is at the base of why we, and most of America are overweight.

Check it out at www.weighdown.com. I really hope you will do this program.

God bless you!

Hi A.,
I have personally tried Medifast & it was AWFUL. The food is TERRIBLE. The shakes are decent but there is nothing that can save the food product that you have to eat. I would definitly recommend Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers as they teach you how to eat in today's world. Hope this helps.

Dear A.,
Every plan has the tools to work if you work them. That being said. I struggled with my weight for a long time and realized that it wasn't the plans that didn't work for me it was me sabotaging myself everytime. Even when I had success, I could regain 50-60 pounds. I had to figure out why I was eating and what was missing. I really didn't know that at the time but you know about hindsight!
I went to a seminar that put me in touch with a lot of things that were out of control in my life. Since you are an occupational therapist you may know a little about this. My boundaries were a mess, my heart was shielded from everything.
I went to a program called Pathways Core Training and it was an awakening. Since graduating the program(I volunteer regularly for them) I have dropped 60 pounds(through following Weight Watchers) and a lot of other baggage, too.
I would love to talk to you about this if you are interested.
please feel free to email me ____@____.com
My prayers are with you. I hope to hear from you.

I have a friend who is doing Medifast right now. She has lost 50 pounds so far I think. The hardest thing for her is that she likes going out to eat, so she always has to special order her food to make sure there's no oil or butter on grilled foods. But she looks good and feels great.

A.,
Hello. While I have not tried anything as drastic as Medifast, I have done Weight Watchers before. I enjoyed the slow pace of weight watchers the year I did it. I have recently discovered a new company that I am using that I really like. I feel like I am on a little mission to tell everyone I know about it! It is called Diet Gourmet. It is based out of Houston, but they have a corporate office here in Dallas, close to the Galleria. They do not have weight counseling, like Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers, no weigh-ins, etc. What they do, is prepared fresh foods, nothing is frozen. You can choose from 2 calorie intakes (1100 and 1700). All of their food is fresh. You pick it up on Monday (they deliver too, for a fee) and the food is labeled A,B,C,D... You eat in in the order or perishableness - A food on Monday, B food on Tuesday, etc. There is NO sign up fee, no minimum, you just order what you want. I have been doing this for 6 weeks now, and have lost 8 pounds. I only order their food for breakfast and lunch during the work week. I still cook my own dinners for my family and don't order any of the food for the weekends. For me, the sheer ease of this system is worth it to me. I put my bag of food in the fridge, and each day as I leave for work, I grab my breakfast and lunch for the day, and I don't have to think about it. I already have 2 friends at work that spent weeks looking over my shoulder asking "what is that, where is that from, that looks delicious and healthy"! Now, they order it too, and we're all seeing success. I think their website has a journal or place where you can track your progress, but I haven't looked into it. Go to www.dietgourmet.com and see if this might be an answer to your needs. I could obviously go on and on about it, so I wanted to share my story with you. Best of luck to you in your goals!

I did Medifast when I was 19. The same time that Oprah did it as well. I lost 70 lbs in a somewhat short period of time. I DO NOT recommend it! I gained all of the weight back and then some. It is just not a realistic way to take off the weight. It slows your metabolism down so much b/c your body is in starvation mode. My best advice would be to change you eating habits and start to exercise. I know it''s easier said than done, but I have done that and have managed to keep off about 40 lbs. in the last 4 years. I hope and pray this helps!

A., I do not think that Medifast is all that healthy. Before you take that plunge, why not have a look at Shaklee's Cinch program? MANY people have lost what you have to lose on Cinch and even more and seem to be keeping it off. It is a very healthy plan and probably the easiest I have ever tried. It seems to help you burn fat, not muscle and helps you build and maintain lean muscle mass. And you absolutely don't get hungry on this. People lose as many inches as pounds.........sometimes more! You can have alook at it on my website, www.shaklee.net/healthconnection, and I can send you a Product Guide & more info if you are interested. Shaklee has been around for 51 years and the products have been clinically proven to be safe and effective. If you would like to contact me re: this, my e-mail address is ____@____.com.

I have done Medifast before and i am doing it again. I think the program is great. It only works if you are committed to the program, after the first few days you will not feel hungry. If you stick to the program, and it is not hard to do, you will lose the weight. For the amount of weight you want to lose you should be looking to make a 6 month commitment, the support offered is great. I only do the on line things, but you can go to a center (I believe it is an additional cost). The food taste good, and you will not miss having sweets, because so many of the products are like eating desert. Do not go into sticker shock when you are ordering, you have to consider that if you get the variety pack you are getting enough food for 5 meals a day for 30 days.

again the program really works, and you can see results fast, but it takes a lot of work to keep the weight off once you have reached your goal.

In response to some other people who say dont do it. I will say this. I have been active all of my life and once I gave birth my body completely changed. My doctor recommended the program and many physicians do. If you have any other health problems related to be being over weight your insurance may cover the medifast since you can purchase it through a physician and be monitored through a physician.

I do not think it is a-end-all-to-be-all, but it is a great way to jump start your weight loss. Everyone is different, you may or may not like it, but just try it, they even have a two week trial, and a three day trial. The first time I was on medifast, I experienced headaches for the first two days until my body adjusted, This time I have not had any side effects.

What is really great are the easy to use tools on the site. Just go on the site and register, it does not require a purchase. See what people have to say look at the support pages, and go from there.

good luck

before buying it, yes you do lose lots of weight BUT, you can also lose your hair for lack of vitamins and minerals. You may lose the 80lbs but you may gain 20lbs back when you start eating real food again. Medifast are shakes and whatnots. do a research on the web "medifast reviews" or something like that. There were ALOT of complaints about gaining weight back, it doesn't teach you how to eat better, just tells you to take there stuff and you lose. What about after you are done? You end up eating junk food like you did before becuase they didn't teach you how to portion control or balanced diet or anything. h

After several attempts at Weight Watchers, I've lost and kept off 95 pounds with the lap-band. As well as keeping me to small portions, it makes eating fat quite unpleasant. Therefore, my risk of breast, liver, and colo-rectal cancers, as well as type-2 diabetes has been reduced by approx. 600%. I thank God everyday for the new life I've been given.

I have been on Medifast for a week and it is working. The last visit to the doc he put me on low dose high blood pressure and cholesterol medicine and I want to get off them, so I consider it medicine. As for me, medicine is about what it tastes like but my health is worth it. My kids laugh and say, "Mom, you aren't hungry because who would want to eat that stuff?" It's not awful, but I can't say I like much of the food, so it kind of takes my mind off eating.
I'm already noticing loser fitting clothes and lower blood pressure, and not having to plan meals is wonderful.
Good luck!

A., I tried it and love it. I am about to start back on it this week. It is not for everyone, but if you are ready to lose the weight then it will work. The most important thing to remember is not to cheat. I have done it in the past, but I think now I am mentally ready to go all of the way. I have about the same amount to lose. Recently I was on the full fast (5 shakes per day) and lost 13 lbs the first week. As we keep hearing about weight loss, it is a lifestyle change, but Medifast can help you get there.

my husband and i own a nutrition store in amarillo called innovative nutrition, and i too was severly overweight after having children (5), but thru some pretty simple tips and good nutrition, i was able to lose about 70lbs in 4 months. This became a "mission" of sorts for me. I'd love to help you with your diet and some helpful suggestions. It wont cost you anything for the advice, and the sorts of things we sell in our store are just convenient foods that help you with your goals. I have some great fat burners too. We help hundreds of people daily. I've personally helped many, many, many people lose 100lbs or more thru diet. We have many before/after testimonies to prove our success. I'd love for you to stop in and talk with us, first chance you get.
As for the medifast plan, it is similar to what we will recommend. 6 meals a day (some of those with protein replacement shakes)....our methods work...just ask any of our satisfied customers!
We are located at 7401 sw 45th/coulter next to subway and o.p. Nails. Ask for S. or jj.
Hope to see you!

I have tried Medifast, Jenni Craig, Weight Watchers and all sorts of other Diets. My end solution was the Lap Band surgery. BUT that is not a surefire thing for weight loss. Some people still can gain weight with it when the 'Cheat'. I now eat protein first, veggies second and if I have room, fruit. Try to eat more proteins than anything else. I have made mine work for me but it is hard. Walking 45-60 minutes a day helps the weight loss. (and the mind) I started out about 270 and am down to 190. Not perfect but much better than before. Hang in htere you will find what is right for you.

Another website you can consider (that's free) is Calorie Count (http://caloriecount.about.com). I used CC in 2007 and lost almost 50 pounds in the first 6 months. I've been able to keep the weight off now for about 9 months without counting anymore. You have to be disciplined in the beginning, but there's lots of support on the forums/message boards. I hooked up with a buddy half way around the world and we've been losing weight together (same stats for height and weight). We keep in touch 1-2 times a month to keep each other motivated. And it teaches you how to eat right and make better choices. I don't order fried foods anymore (french fries were once my Achilles heal, but now I just don't enjoy them that much). There are also very inspiring stories on CC. Just browse the forums and you'll find them.
