Anybody Know of a Great Back Pain Specialist in the Plano and Surrounding Areas?

Hi everyone!
I was wondering if anybody knows of a back pain specialist in the Plano and surrounding areas? My husband is having to take off a month from work because he is having some pain issues. He has been diagnosed as having a herniated disk. It seems to get worse because he has to lift heavy objects at work. We are not wanting to manage the pain by masking it with medication. We want to find the root of the problem and deal with it's treatment. Please if you know of a specialist that won't over medicate let me know who and how do I contact them.

What can I do next?

YES! Literally, I know your husband's pain. (I have 2 herniated disks myself) I have seen Dr. Kenneth Dauber since I was 18, now 26. He knows what it's like to be physically active and is wonderful in his treatments. He is apart of Plano Orthopedic & Sports Medicine located at Plano Parkway and Old Shepard, just west of Preston. I highly recommend him. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions. Take good care of that hubby. :)

I highly recommend Dr. Craig Callewart ###-###-#### - website is www.c3spine.com - an excellent doctor and surgeon. He did my cervical fusion 2 years ago (removed 2 ruptured disks in my neck & replaced them with bone from my hip) but gave me all the info if I wanted to try less radical treatments first, including chiropractic and trigger point injections. Great guy, forthright and highly qualified. FYI, I found him through a friend who had the same surgery a few years before I did. Both of us are completely recovered, with a 100% improvement in quality of life.

Best of luck in your research and your husband's recovery!

I herniated my L4/L5 discs about 8 years ago and really love Dr. Gregory Powell off Plano Parkway near Coit. He performed a couple of lumbar epidural injections which helped minimally, but then he performed a procedure called nucleoplasty where he put me in a twilight sleep and I was on an x-ray table. He then inserted a needle into the exact locations and sucked out the herniated portion. He explained the procedure using an analogy of a jelly donut and how when the jelly gets squeezed out, that is what caused the pain, and the nucleoplasty was like sucking the jelly out. I highly recommend him. I also went through several rounds of therapy, which I don't think helped much, personally. After the nucleoplasty, my pain started coming back after about a year, and then I went to see this really really wonderful acupuncturist. I was a skeptic when it came to acupuncture, but when I could barely walk into this woman's office, and I walked out like normal an hour later, I have been a believer ever since. Her name is Shelley Tsai and she is off 15th street in Plano. So, after combining these 2, I have very little discomfort these days. Sure, I have to be careful and sometimes I will do something and it will hurt again for a few days, but it is nothing like the pain I had when I initially herniated the discs. I would say your husband needs to change jobs, if possible, because once you herniate discs, it is hard to bounce back and be normal again. All you can do is the best you can do and try to not re-injure it. Lifting boxes doesn't sound like a job that is conducive to not re-injuring his back. Good luck to him.

My husband had two buldging disc from auto accident, refused surgery, was in pain for 15 years before we found a nutritional supplements that has helped him to be pain free. To this day he runs, lifts weight and no pain. Let me know if he is open to try a natural remedy.

Best Wishes.

Dr. Kenneth Dauber is wonderful and very conservative. He is at 5228 Plano Parkway, and the number is ###-###-####. I saw him for bursitis that would not heal several years ago. He finally had to do spinal injections in my back, which worked.

If you want an alternate route as I took for herniated discs, I saw Dr. Jason Venn when I had herniated two discs in my upper back. Was walking the dogs, and they crossed and each took off after a different dog on the other side of the fence. When Dr,. Venn took the x-rays, he said he could see what was wrong with me a mile away. They stuck out over an inch from the leashes cross and being jerked that way. He set the bones by compression, and I went four times a week for awhile. Then as it healed, it went to three, then two then one. Then once a week, then once every two weeks. I still go every three weeks. So much better than surgery.
He is located on Legacy in Frisco between Stonebriar and Warren in a two story building behind the new nursing home they have built there. He is a caring doctor, and his number is 972. 668. 9200.
