Seeking a Neurosurgeon - Dallas Fort Worth Area (Willing to Travel Anywhere)

I am looking for a neurosurgeon that is skilled and very experienced in neck surgeries. I have instability at C1 and C2 and have tried all the conservative treatments but my condition has declined and will require stabilization/fusion surgery. I live in Fort Worth and will travel pretty far for an experienced compassionate surgeon as this area of the neck is very critical.

Thank you in advance.

I have to second Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles especially The Spine Institute headquarted in Santa Monica with a location at Cedars Sinai as well. I had C4-5 (laminectomy) and C5-6 (fusion) done by their team....amazing results and mobility!! Let me know if I can help.

**fusions have advanced so much with different materials, an anterior approach (from the front) and a much quicker recovery.

My husband just recently had surgery on a herniated disc in his neck this past December. Second time actually, both performed by the same neurosurgeon, Dr. David Barnett. He is located in Dallas. We have nothing but good to say about him. Very well knowledged and experienced. http://www.txneurosurgery.com/barnett.html

When my husband needed a second surgery (different disc) we didn't hesitate to go back to Dr. Barnett. Good luck!

One year ago today, I had L4 & L5 fused by Dr. Derek Duke with the Spine & Brain Institute. He is the doctor who fixed Roy from Siegfried & Roy. I tried so hard not to have a surgery, but all efforts failed within 1 year and I went in as emergency surgery. I was so happy with the outcome I wanted to cry (in a good way). He is in Vegas. ###-###-#### I had Lumbar Spine Fusion, a fixation device inserted, spine prosthetic inserted, and bone grafting.

My husband had a similar surgery from a doctor who shares the office with him, Forage, I will NOT recommend.

Dr. Walter X. Loyola of Brain & Spine Institute of Texas performed an emergency surgery on me last fall to remove a meningioma (benign). I recovered beautifully and am back to work full time. I had a wonderful experience with him. I don't know whether he has done the type of surgery you will need, but you could call his office and ask: ###-###-####. He has offices in Flower Mound, Plano and McKinney. Best wishes to you.

Hi A.,

I had a fusion of c5/6 and c6/7 four years ago and would HIGHLY recommend my surgeon:

Craig Callewart www.c3spine.com ###-###-#### . His office is located just off I-75, very close to North Park Mall in Dallas.

I know the prospect of spine surgery is daunting, to say the least. I hope it reassures you to know that my procedure was a complete success - I would do it again (with Dr. Callewart!) if I had to.

Wishing you the very best of luck & a speedy recovery,
S.

UTSW (Dallas) is the best place for neurosurgery. I would see Dr. Kevin Morrill. He's the best for spine. People travel from all over the country to see him. In fact, he does a lot of corrective surgery on patients that come to him from other spine doctors.

J. Michael Desaloms, MD

My husband had surgery after many years of suffering with the same problem you seem to have, except my husbands problem was with C5-C6. Dr. Desaloms was recommended by a friend and we were very pleased. He is not foreign, like his name sounds, therefore you can understand him. His bedside manner is incredible. I can not say enough good things about him. My husband woke up after surgery feeling better and the pain he had suffered from for so long was gone. Hope this helps.

Have you looked into Spine Team Texad in Southlake? I didn't need surgery, but used them for a herniated disc. You will see several articles on them. Great staff and easy to work. If I needed surgery that is where I would go.

One of my co-workers had cervical surgery at Cedar-Sinai Spine Institute. Her surgeon was an artist. There was much testing beforehand to determine exactly where her problems were to avoid as much fusion as possible. Another friend had very complicated lumbar surgery with the head of neurosurgery at UCLA Medical Center. If you are willing to travel to Los Angeles, PM me and I'll get the names for you.

Dr. Peloza is a great orthapedic surgeon who might offer you a creative, cutting edge solution to avoid neck fusion. Dr. Catorini fused my husband's neck 15 or so years ago. My husband wishes he knew about, and had gone to Peloza first... A fusion is a big deal that can cause future problems for the vertabra above and below the fusion, oftentimes resulting in the need for fusing those vertabra too. My husband wishes he had tried alternatives like what Peloza offers first. Catorini is an excellent neurosurgeon.

Both Doctors are in Dallas.

When my kids were diagnosed with Arnold Chiari Malformation and I had exhausted the stupidity of the pedsNS in the area, I contacted this man who is considered one of the leading experts in the surgery for adults and he referred me to a doc in Galveston who sucessfully operated on both on 03...that doc is not retired and I would take my kids to this man if needed now...to me, it says alot about his ethics that he would refer with no fee...

The neuro surgery group at UT Southwestern is awesome. There are several Drs that are in the neuro group. U can go to www.utsouthwestern.edu and look at the group. I have had friends and family that were both treated by the group and went from totally pain days to pain free.Very good results. My daughter has been to several back Drs in the area and this group has done awesome.

There is straight neurology, orthopedic and neuro surgery. Sometimes you will see some from each group to define exactly what your problem and solution is.

Good Luck

If you haven't found someone, I highly recommend my neurosurgeon Dr Michael Musacchio of the Center for Spine Care. www.centerforspinecare.com. He & Dr Peloza are pioneers in minimally-invasive spine surgery. I just had an anterior fusion done at C6 & C7 after a rupture at C7. The recovery time is phenomenal! The surgeons and staff are all very caring. Best wishes!
