Any Other "Older Moms" of 1 Out There?

I'm a 42-year-old mom of a 16 month old. Sometimes I feel a little isolated because my friends either a) have grown-up kids (since we are in our 40s!) or b) never had kids. Also, being an older mom, I will most likely stop at one child. Are there other "older moms" (ick - hate that term, but wasn't sure what else to use!) of little ones out there - especially those with only one child - who might be interested in forming a mom/child playgroup (or even maybe just an online group) that would also be a bit of a mom support group? I was just curious to see if there are others out there who would like to connect! I live on the NW side of Chicago (Norwood Park area) but would travel a bit to get together once a month or so if others were interested. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I consider myself to be an old mom at 37. My husband is 47 and until my 4 month old daughter was born, we were planning for retirement. Not anymore! Anyway, another child is not expected. My parents are in Edison Park and I'm near Golf Mill so I'm pretty close as well. Since my daughter is so young and I work full-time, I haven't met any other parents or joined playgroups, so it would be nice to meet & share with others with similar situations.

Hi C.,
I probably don't fall into your category of "older mom" at 33, but most of my friends have kids who are already in grade school or don't plan on having any, either. I know how it feels to be the only one with a newborn!

I also live in the Norwood Park area and would love to be able to hang out with other moms in the area. I am going a little stir crazy this winter and I think my son and I could both use some new friends in our lives. Please contact me if you get a playgroup together!
Thanks,
T.

Hi! I,m an "older Mom" 41. My son is almost 15mos. I live on the NW side. I can relate and understand how you feel. I work full-tme too. Good for you w/ grad school! I have been trying to connect with my friends with their kids and it's not always so easy, life is just busy as you know. I would love to branch out to see if we can set up playdates when possible and support each other.

My children are 21, 18 & 16 so too old for playmates but I am an 'older mom' living in Portage Park. We just started a moms support group that meets the first Thursday at 7pm at Heathers Cafe Couture 4352 N. Cicero. We would love you to join us next time on March 6!

Hi C.. I am an older mom too. I am 41 and I have a 4 1/2 year old son. Most of my friends with same aged kids are in their early thirties and have multiple children. I have been wanting to connect with other moms with one kid and certainly moms closer to my age. It is often isolating and difficult as I feel different and left out a lot of the time. Have you met with other moms or started an online support group? I would be interested in something like that, especially online. I live in Oak Park. I am not sure where you are in relationship to there. It is nice to know there are other moms out there feeling the same way. thanks for sharing.

Hi!! Right here! I am 41 years old and my DD is 2 1/2. I used to live on the NW side, too. (Albany Pk) we now live in Elk Grove. I too, sometimes feel a little left out, my friends all have kids in junior high or HS or my neighbor with her little ones is 30 years old. Hmmm....oh well. Sure, I would love to chat with other moms who are in the same age frame with little ones.

Hi "Neighbor"! I too live on the NW side....right by Merrimac Park (Irving Park & Narragansett). And I'm an old mom, although my son (an only child) is going to be 5 in a few months. I was 43 when he was born, so technically, you were a "younger" mom than I was :-) As much as I'd love to form a playgroup w/us and our kids, I doubt my son would be all that interested in it. Then again, you and I could just hang out together while our kids played with other kids (although at 16 months, yours probably doesn't yet "play" too much w/others). Let me know if you're interested.

And as I like to say, "Being an old mom is better than being no mom".

D., fellow old mom
