Any Ideas on Cost?

Right now my son and his dad are in the middle of switching their insurance. Unfortunately, at this very moment my two year old is not insured. Tonight he has a fever of 100.5 and pulled at his ear once. I was wondering if anybody knows what it would cost out of pocket to take him to the dr. if needed?

What can I do next?

Definately try a minute clinic-can find locations at www.minuteclinic.com. They charge $59 for ear infections. Make sure the fever is not over 102 because they will refer you to the emergency room and that will cost alot more. Just be sure to give tylenol or motrin before going to bring the fever down if need be. If you go to a doctor's office or urgent care you may pay more than double that and if there is an infection the minute clinic can write a prescription.

Hi B.-

I have a friend who, while in between ins. coverage, had to take her toddler to the ER for a high fever/ear ache last year and it was frightfully expensive. Not a surprise, I'm sure.

Have you tried one of the Minute Clinics around town? They're not so great for more involved situations (they'll refer you to Urgent Care or ER if it's something complex), but for something like a fever and a potential ear ache, they ought to be able to help. Their web site lists locations and costs:

Good Luck!

I'd skip the E.R if at all possible and try Urgent Care. Most typical doctor appointments are about $100.00 add any testing or E.R. or Urgent Care status and it goes up. If you don't have insurance they're weird and will make you pay something down or pay the bill in full before they'll see you.

Although if it comes down to it I believe any emergency room in the state of MN has to see a patient with disregards to if they can pay or not.

Another suggestion wihch is a no no(don't attack me) but I've known people to do it in this type of situation is use a close friend or relatives children's insurance card you just have to go somewhere they haven't gone before.

Is he getting teeth? My kids run small fevers and tug at their ears when they are teething. If you thinkit is an ear infection and you take him to the ER it will cost a lot. Apple Valley Medical Center
http://www.applevalleymedicalcenter.com is open 24 hours and is an Urgent Care, I think an appointment would be around $200 - $300. If you can wait until tomorrow Quick Med, in CVS pharmacys should be able to see him and they are a lot less maybe $50 t0 $80 depending on diagnosis. No insurance is scary especially for the little ones. I am pretty sure that all uninsured children in MN are eligible for Minnesota Care, if its going to be awhile before the new insurance starts you might want to check into it. http://www.dhs.state.mn.us/main/idcplg?IdcService=GET_DYN...

Good luck to you! :)
