Any Experience with an IUD

I had an IUD put in after my first child. I didn't think we were going to have more... anyway... it was great at first. The first year I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Soon, I began having pain during intercourse and my period became extrememly heavy and lasted about 2 weeks. Once we decided we were going to have another child, I had it removed, and all of the pain and heavy periods went away. Each person is different, so you might not react that way. I have read a lot of posts about IUDs and many women LOVE them... after this child my husband is having a vasectomy, so at least I don't have to worry about it anymore!

I had an IUD placed after my second child was born. It has been the best! We don't have to worry about getting pregnant, and we don't even think about condoms or the pill. It is great! I would definitely recommend it! My periods are basically about 2-3 days of VERY light bleeding, and no cramps at all. There was a little cramping for the first day or so after they put it in, but after that I have had no pain.

I have the mirena been 2 yrs now and love it the only down fall is unexpected spotting other than that I think it's great no worring about taking a pill or the weight gain of the shot (been on both)

The IUD is like any other birth control (it works for some and not for others.) My body rejected the IUD, when I went in for my follow-up I found out I was pregnant with my second.

I had the IUD but the string was cut too short.Instead of softening as it should have with time , my husband said it felt like a booby trap!The short plastic string was like a needle.I didnt feel it but he sure did.I know of two people my cousin and best friend who had IUDs but i guess they werent inserted properly? and they were pregnant within months.I personally didnt feel comfortable with a foreign object in me. I opted later for the Depo shot

hi. i also have a mirina(sp). n i love it. ive had it in a little over 3 yrs and i never had any problems with it. no cramping no nothing. i got alot of discharge in the beginning but thats it. it stopped my periods as soon as it was put it. i had it put in because of my bleeding. i bleed for 6 weeks for no reason and it was getting worse. my obgyn recommended it, so i gave it a try. u should too. good luck with the new baby. if u have any questions u can email me at ____@____.com.

I personally thought the IUD was God sent. I don't react well to hormones and it didn't have any hormones in it. Unfortunately for me, I was one of the very small population that expelled it so I'm no longer a candidate for an IUD. What I can say about it is that at the beginning your cramps and menstrual bleeding are a lot stronger but nothing that an Advil can't take care of. I had one (mirena) for 5 years shortly after my 2nd was born. Removed in July of 07.

Period went away!
no babies during that time
No daily pills
cost effective!

Cons
Always wondering what if I were pregnant?
Weight gain
Mood swings
Sometimes VERY bad cramps after sex
My husband said he could feel the removal strings.
Also took us 9 months to conceive after removal.

I have the Mirena IUD, I got it about 5 months(I believe they wont implant it until you have had your first period after birth) after I had my son. I have had no problems over the past 10 months, my periods gradually became lighter and now I have not had one in the past month. The doctor said that was a perfectly normal responce to the Mirena. When I discussed wanting another child in 2-3 years he said to make sure I planned a couple months in advance to have it removed so that my uterus could build up its lining. My insurance covered all of the cost, I only had to pay for the office visit. You would need to check your specific plan. Good Luck and congrats on the new addition to your family. S.

I have a Mirena, which is technically an IUC, not an IUD, though I really don't know what the difference is. I have had it for 2 years now and I love it! At first, there was frequent cramping that a had for many months. My periods were a lot lighter right away. After around 6 months though, the cramping lessened and kept lessening so that now I don't have cramps EVER. I also don't get my period anymore which I love! I would recommend it highly. There is no other more cost effective way out there! It cost me a $20 copay and lasts up to 5 years. Good luck!

I have no personal experience with an IUD, but I think you should know how it works. They insert a "foreign" object in your uterus,with a sting attatched, so that it can be removed. Your body reacts to this object, by creating a low grade infection in your uterus. You are still ovalating, so when your egg is fertalized, because of the infection in your uterus, the fertalized egg will not implant, and is passed. Bottom line, your eggs are still being fertalized, they are just can't implant, so you have a miscarriage. This may sound a little harsh, but I thought you should know how it works, in case you had no clue. It is not very healthy for you, because you have this constant infection going on inside of you. I don't know how you feel about the miscarriage part. Good luck finding some thing that works for you
