Anyone else notice that sometimes what you post on Mamapedia shows up on your Facebook home page (time line)? I'm not a Friend on Mamapedia's Facebook page. I don't care if what I post shows up on Mamapedia's Facebook page but I don't want my posts on my Facebook page. What I say on Mamapedia is not open for my friends who aren't on Mamapedia to see. Grrrrrrr!

Anyone know how to stop this? I'm guessing it can't be done. Now I better understand others' concerns about privacy.

Edit: I never log on thru Facebook. I have never mentioned Mamapedia on any part of Facebook nor mentioned Facebook on Mamapedia.

What can I do next?

  • Ask your own question Add Question
  • Join the Mamapedia community Mamapedia

  • this with your friends

So What Happened?

I reviewed the posts on Facebook and think they are all comments I made on blogs, not actual questions. Whew! I no longer respond to blogs. In fact, on my Mamapedia page, I don't see a way to respond to blogs any more. I don't know why blogs and my responses would show up, either, but at least nothing new should appear.

I commented on a blog once and was surprised that it made its way to my FB page. If you want to comment on a blog, look carefully and you'll find an already-checked box saying, "Post this on my page." Uncheck that box before you finish your comment, or even before you start it.

I am not sure, but I think it might have something to do with how you sign in to Mamapedia? I have heard that if you log in via FB, that is where the connection is made. But if when it comes time to sign in to MP, if you enter a username and password instead of clicking in "sign in through FB" (or whatever it says), then it won't connect with FB?

I am really not sure if that is the case, I remember hearing that somewhere recently though. I understand your frustration of wanting MP to remain separate from FB! There are questions/rants I put on MP to strangers that I won't post on FB to people who know me! :-)

It doesn't matter how you signed up with Mamapedia. They have started "sharing" posts that are made here onto their FB page whether or not you have them linked. I know because I purposely do not have any of my accounts linked and I looked yesterday because another Mamapedia user said her story was used without her permission. True enough. Not only do they "share" but they also come up with their own comments to lead into the questions we post... Go ahead and take a look... a part of me is a bit peeved that they don't tell you this when you sign up. Oh and it's random. You might reply to every question posted in a day but only a couple are "shared" on FB. I have no idea how they decide... maybe by popularity?

Wow, I was going to type up how to go to privacy and block the site but when I do that it won't show up. You can ask FB themselves how to block the page from your wall but they may take some time to get back to you.

They are a reference page, not an application so that's the difference.

I suggest you go back on your wall until you find one of the posts they have posted on your wall. IF you click on the down arrow to the right of the post it will have you click on one of a couple of options. Pick report story or spam. Then you will get a box up that asks you what you want to do now. Pick the middle one, I think, it might be blocking it.

I would sure ask FB if none of these ideas work though. They should be able to answer this question in a few minutes of thinking about it once someone is working on submitted questions.

I have had it happen on other sites because a box is ALREADY checked onteh site to post to FB.

I know that you can either log in through FB or by typing in your user name and password. I never, ever log in through FB and always make sure I'm entering my log in information on the site. This might make the difference between it posting or not. I've not had my posts show up on my wall.
It might have a privacy setting through the apps page maybe?

Maybe on your FB acct. you can change the option to have mamapedia post on your behalf? Or cut ties with mamapedia through FB?
