Almost 15, No Period Yet

Just wondering how long it took for you or your daughters to get their period after showing signs of puberty. My dd is definitely a late bloomer which has been checked by an endocrinologist (everything checked out normal). She is still a little under 5' (I'm 5'1") also has very little body fat, although she is definitely eating more this year than last. She has some breast development, but still is about where I was in 5th grade (she's at the tail end of 9th now).
I'm not asking for a medical diagnosis, just real experiences on when other late bloomers got their period...her growth pattern is way different than mine (I got my period when I was 12 - almost 13) and I was done growing at that time.

What can I do next?

From when I needed deodorant (my first sign), about 3 1/2 years for me.

A friend of mine's daughter sounds a lot like yours - same age, same build - still waiting. Same - healthy.

She's just a late bloomer. I wouldn't worry too much. Doctor's say periods can start between 8 and 16. 12.8 is the average. If she turns 16 and still has not gotten it go to the doctor again. I was 14 when I got mine and never developed a womanly body. I was not happy about that when I was a teenager. My mom has curves/breasts. I'm flat and skinny...some people just naturally have a thin body shape with no curves and daughter's often don't take after their mothers. Doctors say it is common to get your period 2 years after developing pubic/armpit hair. Does she have any hair yet?

15 sounds late, but the average includes girls on the high and low end of the spectrum. for a slight girl without much body fat this is probably normal.

My cousin, as well as several friends got their period at 16 yo. I really would not worry.

My daughter’s both got their periods at 11. My youngest suffers terribly with cramps. She been seeing a gynecologist since the fall and we still haven’t found a medication that works for her.

My mom was 16 when she got hers.
But then she grew up during the Great Depression - there was a lot of starvation - and she was what we'd call underweight by today's standards.
At 5ft 5in tall - she was 96 lbs.
Although her weight increased a little as food was more available, she had a 17 inch waist until she had her first child (me) when she was 26 yrs old.

Percentage of body fat has a lot to do with when periods start.
Athletes who train hard and have low body fat often have trouble with irregular periods.
If your doctors aren't worried I think your daughter is doing alright and will get her period when she gains a little weight.

if she has been checked out and determined nothing is medically wrong? Leave her alone and let her body work at its pace.

I was almost 16 before I got my period. My sister and aunt were both 10 when they started theirs. Everyone is different.
