I've had to cancel many trips because of this. My son had frequent ear infections his first 2 years and due to an ill parent in Florida, we flew back and forth a lot. It's uncomfortable for him and you, not to mention everyone around you who will also be exposed to whatever he has. Unless it's an emergency, I would postpone or cancel the trip.

I would not fly unless you get cleared by the doctor. It may be the start of an ear infection and if you fly and his ears are blocked he could burst an ear drum. VERY PAINFUL.

This happened to me when I had an ear infection and flew, but also too my sister who traveled with her then 1 year old and he burst the ear drum and it was excrutiating for him. They ended up renting a car and driving back because they couldn't fly with him after he burst the ear drum.

Even if your ticket is non refundable it might be worth contacting the airline direct to see if they can transfer the tickets. Also check your insurence in case you are covered. Hope your wee boy gets well soon.

Hi,
I am sorry about your sick baby. I wouldn't fly. You will have to postpone your trip until he is better. Trust me on this, you do not want your little one to develope serious sinus, ear pressure/infection. His immune system is already fighting something, please do not push your luck. You will get to Florida, but you may find yourself not having any fun with a very painfully sick baby.
Good luck and try to get your baby better. No sugar lots of water and pedialite (sp?) and make your baby rest as much as possible. His fever may go away by then. Good Luck Momma!

If his fever hasn't gone down I would recommend you not fly at this time. We just had our first flight with my 5 year old & 2 1/2 year old. Both were perfectly healthy until we returned home & my son picked up a nasty cold, cough, & fever. There are so many germs floating around an airplane! He will be miserable since he is already fighting something & I'm sure you don't want him worse, especially away from home! There are alot of viruses going around right now! Good Luck D.!

My kids seem to get sick whenever we have a trip planned. I flew to Hawaii with a child with an ear infection and from Indiana with a baby with bi-lateral ear infections and ruptured ear drums! I have given my kids benadryl (to make them sleepy and to stop runny nose) or children's nightime cough medicine when flying with my sick kids. Of course, check with your doctor, but benadryl or children's nighttime cough medicine made my sick little ones much more comfortable on the plane. They don't make one for infants so I would buy the children's version and adjust it according to their weight. Good luck!

I read your letter this morning and thought I should answer. Many years ago I flew to Colorado with my 11 month old. he seemed fine when we left, little did I know he had an ear infection. He was a little fuzzy on the plane but when we got to Colorado he had a fever. After several attempts we could not get the fever to go down. We called his doctor in Chicago and tried several different things to get it down. We ended up going to one of those emergency medical sites. They gave him an antibiotic but it still would not go down. A day or so later we ended up in the ER. They got the fever down and he was fine a day or so later.
Not to scare you, all I am saying is that I would make an appointment with your doctor before you fly and make sure he does not have an ear infection or anything else going on. (It's is terrible to fly with an ear infection because of the pressure.)

Good Luck and I hope he is fine by the time you leave.

Hi D.,
I'm sure you've gotten this advice already but just in case... you may want to take a quick trip to the Dr. to have the babies ears checked. Travel with an inner ear infection is not recommended. The pain is horrible and it may cause damage to the ear drums.
If the baby just has a fever, you may want to try a cold remedy that will help him/her sleep thru most of the flight.
Good luck!
