Has anyone any experience or knowledge of the Scottish Rite Hsptl in Dallas for Children. My son was referred there for his feet which go inward and he was born like this. They kept saying it would correct itself and they check it every year and it has just gotten worse instead of better.

I heard some about Cook's Children but they can't get him in till Jan 08,
and they can get him in at Scottish Rite in Dallas in 4-6 weeks.

He is falling all the time and I am worried he gonna get hurt,
and that the Dr waited to long to start treatment.
Obvious it didn't correct itself on its own.
He been walking for 2 yrs now.

Anyone have any advise on this Hospital or Orthopedics.
I don't know if they do casts, corrective shoes or Surgery,
but they said it would be something like that for treatment.

I appreciate any advise I am so worried about him,
and I want him to walk without falling and play sports.

What can I do next?

My daughter is 8yrs old, and has been a patient at TSRHC for almost a year. It's an amazing place, with amazing people and doctors. She isn't scared to go there. Doesn't even cry when they draw blood. And they go above and beyond to find out the problem and fix it! The doctors are special people! Take the appt! And another plus, it's free. It is time consuming, plan on spending a good part of the day there, that was my only complaint. But other than that WE LOVE THEM!

I don't know what you have done so far for your child but want to know what you decided. I noticed this post today and wanted to respond. Scottish Rite hospital is the very best hospital for children with situations like your child's. You are lucky to have been referred there. My sister had scoliosis and had one leg shorter than the other. She had surgery at 13 and the problem was corrected without my family paying a dime. Lots of love.

My daughter has been going there for 14 years and we love it. We were referred when she was 6mos old. She has a hand disorder and has had surgery twice. They have helpped us in so many ways. The hospital staff and volunteers are wonderful and all the services are free. The hospital it totally run on private donations. The hospital and the grounds are beautiful.

My son has been goin there for 2 yrs now. It is an awesome hospital. They have medical doctors that come over from the childrens hospital in Dallas. My son sees the orthopedic surgeon and a urologist. They have made braces for his legs and they adjust them once a year. He receives his medication through there pharmacy and they do not charge me for any of their services. It is a great place for kids and not all kids are accepted so if you were referred, that is awesome.
Good luck with everything.

A friend of mine went to Scottish Rite for her son that had really bad club feet. They 1st put her son in shoes to try to correct it but they cause him a lot of discomfort and it wore huge blisters on his feet. Afterwards they put him in casts and now his feet are straight. Hope this helps.

My son currently goes to Scottish Rite. He goes there for his hands. He was born with a slight finger deformation that is somewhat rare and they have specialists on staff who can consult us. We have only had wonderful experiences with the doctors we have come in contact with. My son just turned one, and we have only been there three times and they have just been for x-rays and consultations. He will eventually have surgery, but probably not for another year or so. I would ask your doctor to refer you, I believe there is a program where you might not have to pay anything if you are referred by your pediatrician.

Scottish Rites is a very good hospital. My niece was there for her systemmic juvinile rhumitoid arthritis (spelling). She still has check ups there and loves it. The hospital staff is really good with kids and also with the parents. They talk witht the kids on their level so they understand what is going on and what it will take to get better. Hope this helps some worries you may have.

I am a little biased because I used to work there, but TSRH is absolutely wonderful! Definitely take the opportunity to go there if you can. It's true that you have to have a referral to go there and they usually have a crazy waiting list. They are experts at dealing with club feet so you will be in good hands. The treatment will depend on your child's needs, but casting is a good noninvasive option. It may be time consuming to go to appointments, so it's good that you're a sahm. Everyone is wonderful and it's a very special place. Plus, it's FREE!

Scottish Rite is an awesome institution. I have not used their medical services but they have a dyslexia program that is wonderful and they do lots training in learning disabilities. Being a teacher, I've attended several of their seminars and I just love going to the hospital (it's so beautiful). I would definately take my children there if there was a need. I say go for it before their waiting list gets crazy--it does that sometimes.
