ADD Or ADHD

I need to find a doctor that will see children with Medicaid on ADD or ADHD. My son shows all the signs and his school is threatning to put him out of school because he is a problem. I've had it up to here with his behavior myself, but the pickens mental health center has put his appointment off till the end of March and then he can only see the doctor for 30 minutes and thats not enough time to diagnose if hes got it or not.

My boys have the same problem. My 6 year old is ADHD and my 7 year old is ADD. they are both on medicaid as well. We see Dr. Banks at Easley Family for routine checkups and we he refered us to Greenville Behavioral Peds to see Dr. Weathers for the ADD & ADHD. You would have to get a referral to se Dr. Weathers but he is awesome. We are very pleased with him and how he cares for our children.

My niece has ADHD. Her family doctor is who got her help and put her on Meds. You migh want to take him to his doctor first. Then they took her for councling and other therepy. Just remember that Meds are not always the answer. Before you put him on any thing read all the side effect and take them into consideration. Not all children react to the meds the same way. Hope this was of some help!

PS get involved with his school. Let them know you are trying to get help. Ask the teacher or principal for any suggestions. If they are not willing to help then you may want to consider going to the Pickens county school district office. Let them know you are having trouble. The school and its staff are supposed to be there to help your child not hinder him no matter what his situation is.

I 100% agree with Khristy. We started my 10 year old son on meds this school year BUT did so after many discussions with both our pediatrician and his teachers and counselor ( I was/am greatly concerned about the dependency factor and side effects). His teachers very much appreciated the contact with us and I know with certainty it helped him to see all of us involved in helping him. The communication is a big key. We are also trying some behavioral/thought process changes and I think the meds are helping him to focus on doing things a little differently and better. Hopefully we can help him establish self controls and actions so that he will not be on the meds all of the time.

Have you tried Easley Pediatrics? They have a doctor who specializes in children with behavioral problems (I can't remember which one, they have 10 doctors).
