I have recently become a SAHM and was my kids and I are insured though my job. I don't want to go through Cobra and my husbands insurance through his job is not great. Does anyone know of a good company to go through that is resonable priced for a family of 4?

What can I do next?

Hi K.
We had the same problem we went through Aetna first and the coverage was affordable but not good and the rates kept going up so I found a new company called Assurant Heath through a gal that works for this Genesis corp anyway she is great and it seems like the insurance will be much better for a great price and they look in the rates for 3 years. However if you plan on having more kids or have any pre existing conditions individual health plans dont have to accept you or will charge you more for those things and then it might be better to just go through your husbands employer. If you want more info let me know and I can get you her contact stuff. Good luck

We pay $371 for 5 to Anthem BC/BS. Immunizations are taken care of. We have $5000 deductible that everything else except preventative care for my husband and me count towards. You can get preventative, but it's really expensive. We looked at a $2500 deductible but that put our rates up to about $600 per month. We use the State's coverage for maternity and the kids part of the deductible, so we really don't have to pay the $5000 since they use the coverage the most. I'm looking for our lady's number. She's great. She has a ton of options and a ton of experience. We had to go with something this high due to some special circumstances. You could probably get a much lower rate. Maternity was about $1000 a month 2 years ago, which is why we just use the States. I was actually very impressed with the care I got on Medicaid, including extensive ultrasounds (lots), weekly non-stress tests and other high-risk care, including medicine that would normally have been about $1200 a month -- it only cost me $3. GL!

This is the guy my family used when we were in the same predicatment. We were on Cobra through the birth of our first child ($750/month) and as soon as that was up, this guy was able to get the family on an individual Human HSA plan for just over $200/month. Children's wellness visits and immunizations are 100% covered. He has other plans, too, besides the HSA. He is older, and has been doing this for something like 30 years.

You can check out ehealthinsurance.com for lots of options from various different companies. Our family went with a higher deductible/lower rate plan that is quite affordable. It doesn't pay for regular visits, but if something big happens, we are covered. Anyway--you can look at lots of individual plans through that website.

I am a SAHM and my husband and I don't carry insurance on our selves, but depending on your finances you could use ChiP + for the kids. They have great coverage and you are covered when pregnant. We just can't afford insurance and we RARELY go to the doctor (we haven't been in 3 + years). I would look into ChiP + for the little ones and see what you and your husband can find for the 2 of you.

Hope this is helpful

I don't think there is any "reasonably priced" insurance these days. We went through Blue Cross for a few months during a transition and it seemed fine. It was about $500/mo for a family. this is about the best I think you are going to be able to do unless you qualify for some of the special programs through the State and if your hubbie is working, I'm guessing you won't qualify. I'll look forward to seeing some of the other responses.
